Possible virus?

Hello everyone,
I've been having problems with my computer for a few days. The funny thing is how it started - my computer doesn't recognize my DVD drives at all, cannot even boot from CD. Today my Outlook started failing and I got suspicious activity, like the system stops responding for a while without any apparent reason. I think it's a virus, although my antivirus program (Kaspersky) couldn't find anything on a full scan. What do you recommend that I do?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Liviu

Re: Possible virus?

when i go to bed every night i boot into safe mode and scan with the scan setting on high, and have the top 4 boxes from "mail" to "e drive" checked. this is the best scan it can give you. for my machine, well over 2 hours. i also check the box that says "shut off when scan is complete". the kaspersky will shut off the computer when it's done scanning. i turn off the monitor and that saves electricity. when i wake up in the morning, i find out the results of the scan.
it would also be a good idea to read these sticky's, follow the instructions, and post a hijckthis in the proper forum. they're right here at techsupportforums.
