Windows Live Messenger (MSN) targeted by ZoneAlarm antivirus
ZoneAlarm did a scan of my PC and decided that I have a trojan in my MSN Link ..
![]() I checked the link for ZoneAlarm report ![]() and I am now wondering (I KNOW that MSN is a well known problem for virus / security breaches etc) should I totally remove it or just take extra care ??? I did quarantine it, then let it re-install itself but the message came back on the next scan ( immediately after quarantine / re-install) Unfortunately it's a good method for em to keep in touch with Family members world-wide so don't really want to lose my method of "live " ontact

Re: Windows Live Messenger (MSN) targeted by ZoneAlarm antivirus
It seemed to have quarantined everything except the link in START > Programs
That link exists but causes the re-install of the Messenger I am worried that Zonealarm might be scaremongering due to the fact that they have a new package out aimed at messenger users, regardless of the validity of their claims to security. The new package is called ZoneAlarmŽ IMsecure Pro and is proclaimed as :- Advanced Instant Messaging Protection and details can be found here A second scan using Zonealarm caused the same alarm & quarantine. Re-Installed and ran AVG Free 7.5 & had NO alarms! A search on the net for Zonealarm & MSN Messenger brought forth a lot of response in the form of Zonelarm Security suite causing problems to most messenger type software, not just MSN. As it happens I just re-installed ZoneAlarm Free and it prompted me for 15 days fre trial of the latest ZA suite , which I accepted .. so I am thinking that I have fallen foul of their marketing campaign to sell more security software. final note - One individual has even gone as far as detailing how to remove the unwanted software from within the suite and his notes can be found here at Matt Chan`s Zone Alarm and Windows Live Messenger FIX! note the problem may have been around for a while ![]()
