Strange story (windows hacked?)
I had been running windows xp home. I was having problems, so i decided to add passwords to all user accounts to keep people off the system for a while. Me being secretive, I decided to add to the hint 'windows not registered please contact microsoft', in an attempt to keep those who wanted to login, off of my back for a while. Little white lie.
Here is where it gets strange. A few days later, I'm am at the user login screen. I type in my password for the admin account. Then the login screen displays this little nifty graphical slider bar out of the lower right corner actually telling me that my windows account is non registered! One more try and I was logged in. Strange, very very strange, hairs on the back of the neck type thing. So did someone one up me with little tricks? Remotely or user? Never seen that slider bar before, or after that one single time. Coincidence or hacker? |

Re: Strange story (windows hacked?)
i am just a newbie, but i think you are being hacked.
i recommend that you read these sticky's and follow the instructions. PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...sting-log.html (Updated!) IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting A Log you can find them right here at techsupportforums. many times malware removal can be done by the antivirus and antispyware programs, and a hijackthis log is not needed, but i recommend you post one as well, just in case. |

Re: Strange story (windows hacked?)
Don't think any of that was an issue during that scenario. I was running spybot regular, and probably active antivirus protect. I guess security software just doesn't cover anything except off the shelf script kiddies. IMO.

Re: Strange story (windows hacked?)
i don't quite understand what you're saying, but if you think you can't be infected because you use a couple of good programs, you're wrong.
i hope you're not infected, but the direction i pointed you in is tried and tested, and proven to work. the experts here will make sure your system is clean. |

Re: Strange story (windows hacked?)
It is kind of creepy though wondering what was running on my system that day. A little personal. No I probably don't have enough security, but I just am reluctant to go digging into security books too much. I might get way too involved and do nothing else. I'd have nothing to protect other than protection software and manuals.
