[SOLVED] Computer Shutting down/Control Panel not opening
I recently downloaded and subsequently removed two programs from the website www.myipodownloads.com. Now my computer shuts down and restarts when it used to just hibernate. Also, I cannot access my control panel on the computer now. I'm using Vista and I have Norton Antivirus on my computer. I'm worried that there is some kind of virus or spyware interfering with my use of the computer and possibly attacking it. Please help.

Re: Computer Shutting down/Control Panel not opening
You most likely do have some form of Virus on the PC. I don't recommend Norton, you can download AVG Free Antivirus from my signature below.
The site you mentioned is rated as a RED site in SiteAdvisor. They didn't pick up any bad downloads in their analysis but there certainly could be some on that site. You can head on over to the HJT forum and post a log after following the 5 Steps and they will help you clean up any malware. As far as control panel, another user had this same problem which I was able to help him with yesterday. You can try the following registry edit and see if it lets you back into Control Panel. Note that if you do have spyware or viruses on the PC, the fix below may not work until you completely remove the source of the infection, or it may work temporarily if the virus or spyware program re disables Control Panel. You may have to reboot before the below fix works. Quote:
