what's a .zix file?

I've just downloaded a file on a site and the file is in a .zix format. It's telling me to download WinZix to extract the files, but I never heard of that format or that program WinZix. Is that program safe? If it is not, then is there any other way to extract the .zix file contents some other way instead of using WinZix?

nvm, just found out that winzix is a spyware and the files inside it are spywares too.

Sorry for the late reply, but you're exactly right. WinZix installs LOP adware.
