Spyware Doctor conflicts with Zone Alarm
I just recently removed Norton Internet Security 2007 from my computer because I was fed up with Norton. Have read many recent reviews on computer security suites, and decided to go with Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 2007. I installed it yesterday with no problems. Many of the reviews have recommended running a couple of spyware programs to provided improved coverage. I have read that Spy Sweeper conflicts with Zone Alarm, so I purchased Spyware Doctor 2007. During installation, I was kicked out of windows, and found myself in a DOS screen, telling me that I was kicked out of windows to avoid damage to my computer. After a couple more trys (resulting in my computer freezing up), I restated my computer in Safe Mode, and removed Spyware Doctor. The computer started up okay. I'm going to try to return Spyware Doctor, based on the fact that it conflicts with other software on my computer.
Question - does anyone have any recommendations on a good spyware program that will work alongside Zone Alarm? |

Re: Spyware Doctor conflicts with Zone Alarm
G'Day Michael, Welcome to TSF!
![]() When removing any Norton® programs, you also need to use their 'Removal Tool'. This is because using the "Add/Remove" programs facility in The Control Panel is not enough to completely remove the registry entries. Please use this link to download The Norton Removal Tool. I mention this, as there could be the possibility that the conflicts that you are experiencing might be related to the remnances of those Norton® programs on your computer. Try this; then report back with the results. Kind Regards,

Keen feedback/advice! No lay person wolud evah have nailed this. Norton is a cross between a toe fungus on steroids with the munchies...and a dandelion also on steroids with multiform taproots.

Re: Spyware Doctor conflicts with Zone Alarm
Actually, I downloaded the Norton Removal Tool yesterday and ran it. All that happened is the little microscope went round and round and did absolutely nothing. Since you can't stop it once it's running, I had to Cntl/Alt/Del to get the Task Manager to stop it. Once it stopped, I get a message that the program (Norton) is not responding. I removed Norton Internet Security 2007 (using the Control Panel), and it seemed to work okay. I tried to remove Norton System Works 2007, and that's where I had the problem. It was removed from the listing of programs (Start & Programs) but it still shows up in the Add/Delete listing going through Control Panel. Trying to delete again just hangs up the computer. I have now tried to reinstall Norton System Works with the original CD (thinking that maybe a couple of files may have disappeared, and maybe having a working Norton program will allow the Removal Tool to work), but absolutely nothing happens. The Norton program will NOT load even though I am using the original disk. I totally agree with the "tow fungus" remark above. I know that I will never be touching another Norton product again (i.e., assuming that I can ever get rid of the System Works that is taking up 90MB on my hard drive)
