Firewalls

I am using Comodo firewall, I realise using two firewalls could cause a conflict therefore I turned off my windows firewall. However reading through past posts I discovered that a router also combines as a firewall (I use a Zoom X5 router). I am right in thinking because this is a hardware device no conflict will be caused with the Comodo firewall.

Re: Firewalls

I think I'm right thinking their could be a conflict, you can only use one firewall, I use comodo, and have turned off windows firewall, it's ok but dosn't stop things going out only in. Please contact me to sort this out if needs be

Re: Firewalls

Tony.b99 Thanks for the reply. I am still a little confused, are you saying that the router has a built in firewall that could cause a conflict or that the router itself is acting as a firewall.

Re: Firewalls

There's only a conflict between 2 software firewalls, like Windows Firewall, Zone Alarm or Comodo. It's fine to have a hardware firewall/router with one software firewall.

Re: Firewalls

Koala,

I have Comodo on my HP laptop that is having a problem with Windows Security Center--it no longer recognizes that comodo is a firewall and I had to turn off Security center and monitor the firewall and antivirus (AVG) myself.

Do you have any fixes for getting Windows Security Center to function properly again. I did reset the default but that only turned on Win Firewall again, and didn't cure the problem. Any ideas??

Re: Firewalls

Joan, I use Comodo and AVG and have the Windows Security Center disabled (never used it) so I'm not sure what your problem is.

Go to Start > Run, type services.msc and click OK. Scroll down to Security Center and double-click it to open its Properties. In the Startup dropdown menu there are 3 options, Automatic, Manual and Disabled. Which is yours set to?

Hang on for a reply from the Security team before changing the services options. Mine is set to disabled and I've had no problems with it, but there's a possibility that I've been doing it wrong all this time, so hang on for some confirmation.

What do you mean by "monitor the firewall and antivirus (AVG) myself"? They run in the background with very little need for user interaction. How does the Security Center monitor these apps that is any different to leaving them to do their thing?

This is what my Security Center looks like......

Re: Firewalls

Koala,

I checked on mine in HP laptop and its set to "Automatic". I didn't make any change yet.

What I meant by checking on the Firewall and AVG antivirus myself was that I have it set to "Not Monitored".

My Desktop Win XP Pro (having the same Comodo and antivirus programs) recognizes that I have Comodo and antivirus installed on the desktop. My HP laptop with Win XP home doesn't recognize my programs in the little blurb under the sections for firewall and virus checker. So that is my question because I see these 2 functioning differently.

Re: Firewalls

"not monitored" meaning I have a firewall and antivirus on the computer, and I don't want Windows Security Center to monitor it. I will monitor it myself.
