Forgotten Password

Hello.

OK, the first computer I actually owned....I, Jilly, personally owned....I found in the garbage of this building (a trend, and not Micro). It was and still is amazing, A Toshiba satellite Pro 420CTD, and in original goregous, green Targus bag I now use for my Alienware Sentia 223, also found but last year.

It was original factory installation running W95, I used W98 upgrade disk I also found (bite me, I hunt).....guy I know gave me the one ram upgrade module right 4 it (if U can find them they cost fortune) to max it out at 48 MBs huge ....imagine this, I now have system with 2GBs.

Anyhow, I was just throwing out some old printers and got it out....and guys, I set a password and can not remember it, OK? I think I may need to downlaod the shop manual and open it, find the triper and trip it.....but maybe someone can help me do otherwise. Please, know how many passwords r in my head? Haven't touched this fab puppy for years and wrote nuthin down re the password.

I know passwords R sensitive issues so am attaching the proof that it is mine.....cause on boot after bios....it says my NAME, OK? This is my amazing first computer, I ain't doing no malfeasance/chicanery. Gril on 5 daughter of famous auction gallery founder moved out. SHE.....had NO PASSWORD! Ii KNOW.....BUT we earn our "luck", TRUST ME.

I just took pics of my own name on its screen, OK? Ok there r many females with my name....one only 5 blocks from me the <twibat>....but this is MINE FROM THE GARBAGE LIKE 6 YEARS AGO OR 7.....AND MY FRIEND SAID IT WAS LIKE 3k NEW. Obsolete now, was even when I found it... but made 2 last forevah, the original batt charges even!

Pls help me if anyone can.....I tried like 17 passwords, OK?
Thank U!

Re: Forgotten Password

Hold on, Boys & Girls!

Key Disk for Toshiba laptops

Some Toshiba notebooks allow to bypass BIOS by inserting a "key-disk" in the floppy disk drive while booting. To create a Toshiba Keydisk, take a 720Kb or 1.44Mb floppy disk, format it (if it's not formatted yet), then use a hex editor such as Hex Workshop to change the first five bytes of the second sector (the one after the boot sector) and set them to 4B 45 59 00 00 (note that the first three bytes are the ASCII for "KEY" :) followed by two zeroes). Once you have created the key disk put it into the notebook's drive and turn it on, then push the reset button and when asked for password, press Enter. You will be asked to Set Password again. Press Y and Enter. You'll enter the BIOS configuration where you can set a new password.

OK I downloaded the 35 days 2 try it free hex wrench thingy. I am making the floppy. I have no idea wut I am going....I just hate myself 4 forgetting the stupid password, and cold, hungry and tired of computers.

Re: Forgotten Password

Ok, first, I looked at the Hex Wrench Workshop thingy after installing it on this new Optipex. It requires 3 graduate degrees to just look at the interface, forget the toolbar, forget the help section OK? R U SERIOUS?

THE THING i PASTED MAKES THIS LOOK SIMPLE. I got as far as formatting the floppy on my desktop, getting and installing the trial. Then it was straight into outer space.

And Linderman just told me that TSF, for reasons I already anticipated before posting, has policy re passwords. This is sound. Also why I took the pics of the screen with my actual name.

But i don wanna violate anything.....cause maybe I snatched this first, beloved old puppy/lappy.....from someone sitting next 2 me on a flight from Paris 2 JFK yesterday.....after poisoning his or her peanuts.
I doctored the pics.

Ahhh....here comes the laughter of the first stage of the nervous breakdown..... That not at all natural kind, OK? I am in that phase as I type this.

Re: Forgotten Password

Ok...U gotta admit, I am tenacious little thing.

I got new thingy key suthin and it made the first Hex thingy wake up.

Now....all I need to know is where r these first 5 bytes I need 2 change?

Where is boot sector? wut R bytes? I am ssuming I am making this floppy on this desktop right? Cause obviously, I forgot my bios password on the old Toshiba WITH MY NAME AND CAN'T GET PAST SQUARE ONE BUT THE FLOPPY DRIVE IS HOOKED.

I can not stop this not at all normal laughing, OK? I am attaching the new insanity 4 someone to pls explain, OK?

cAN WE THINK OF THIS AS AN ACADEMIC foray AND NOTHING VIOLATING ANYTHING? Cause hand to God, I ain't.

I think he is about the hooking up pairs of pins on the parallel port device U make---I have two diagrams already......but I do not care; I wanna talk 2 him and no price, no princess.....just that will b fascinating.....to asess his opportunism level re The Desperate humans who find his page. Read=Jill.

Re: Forgotten Password

Update.

Since the above posts.... feels like 5 years ago, I have tried many things but not the skin a parallel cabl, identify & label and reasign the wires 2 different pins and make a pin out.

Someone amazing made a key floppy 4 me and sent it.....cause I got confused early above and nobody came forth and told me wut values to change so I stopped.

As I expected, it did nothing. but the gesutre knocked me out.

Yesterday, remembering how amazing Toshiba support was after I found this first computer.....u have no idea how dear....they registered it in my name and all....that which Laura Doyle, daughter of the famous William Doyle of the Wiliam Doyle Galleries.....threw out......so I called.

Incredibly..., same deal. Got lovely Toshiba guy who liked me....I am the same in all things.....summed up story, said this was about my self hatred & shame in being dumb enuff to have made this password in the first place.....fell on his mercy, and telling him I had a Gloc to my head, I think, made him realize this was an uber crisis (JOKE!).

I asked, cause I read on the net, if they had any backdoor password I could key in....he checked ,came back and with real sadness said no, not for the 420. He added, with this laptop even reformatting will not fix this. As if I had sumthin 2 reformat WITH....came with original installation of W95, I found a Dell disk for W98 upgrade, sued it, it worked. BUT i WAS SO GRATEFUL TO KNOW THAT LAST, gave me more perspective.

Then, he went, Hold on again... PUT ME ON HOLD again...DID NOT ASK FOR A PENNY, MIND YOU....THIS LAPPY IS FROM THE 90s remembah.....CONSULTED WITH HIS PEEPS for a long time, CAME BACK & said, the only way U can deal with the bios password problem....and 4 of us agree, is by opening the Satellite Pro and tripping it.

I knew THEN, HE WAS RIGHT. I leapt about & went INSANE WITH heartfelt gratitude & happy.

So, new plan: guy on ebay has the shop manual for the 420....no money. I will get it and do wut I gotta do....even though this puppy was made to last forevah & is made like Fort Knox...not sleaze lke new lappys....also means not easy to take apart as per the last one I found, the Matrix.

But I will do this and then I will be at peace. I have a deep and abiding attachment to this machine and I will always luv it no matter how obsolete it is.

Re: Forgotten Password

Just bought the service manual for this lappy from ebay vendor. It is on CD, 270 pages, PDF format.

I will make an interval, take it apart luvingly... as carefully as I can after printing out relevant pages from the manual , fix this and feel much, much betta. Much.

No more passwords.

Not much U can't get on eBay.
