Using System Restore to rid computer of viruses, etc.

As is very apparent from my question, I'm sure, I have only a cursory knowledge of my PC. But I was wondering...is it possible simply to do a System Restore back to a point, say a week or a month back, where you know your computer was running clean without a lot of nasties that clearly indicate you have a virus or trojan of some sort. My sister is having this issue and plans to take her computer in for service, but I thought if the fix could be this simple, I have done a System Restore on my own computer and am familiar with the process... But should it be anymore in depth than that, I'll just help her with unplugging her computer and getting it to the shop! Thanks.

Hi

System Restore is unlikely to help. Rather than go to a shop (and pay) where they will likely just wipe the hard disc and re-install Windows, follow this link and we can help clean your system properly - for free!

Please note that the HJT Forum is always busy, so I would ask that you be patient and we will get to you.

Re: Using System Restore to rid computer of viruses, etc.

Thanks for your offer--and I would certainly take you up on it were it my computer that was infected and I had ready access to it and the ability to have you walk me through the process. But as it would be quite inconvenient for me to travel to her house for each step, I'll just let her deal with it as she chooses. But I'll keep this thread in my posts should the time come that it may happen to my computer. Thanks again for your prompt answer to my question!
