My laptop has been running at 100%CPU at times and when I check for processes running with Process Explorer, there is no unusual activity, but the laptop is churning away.
I then looked at all the programs I have installed to see if anything usual has cropped up there. I came across the following 'programs' (using Revo Uninstaller to show the list of 'installed' programs. Lappie: Dell Latitude D505 OS: XP Pro SP2 Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6 ID:2007072518 The Unusuals: mCore mDriver mDrWifi mHlpDell mIWA mLogView mMHouse mPFMgr mPFWiz mProSafe mSSO mWlsSafe mWMI mXML All the above using up a combined apprx. 50mb All the above apparently written by Intel Corporation. I also noticed a couple of 'Windows' programs that I had not noticed before: Windows Communication Foundation, 88.43mb Windows Presentation Foundation, 115.12mb Do any of the above listed programs need to be installed? Can I remove them? Any specific way I should remove them? |

Re: Unusual .exe in add/remove programs!
These progs seem to be associated with this http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/net.../aa663326.aspx
Have a read and see then what you want to do. |

Re: Unusual .exe in add/remove programs!
Whoa! I had a quick read through. These appear to be focused on Vista. I have not used Vista. So how come this got installed??
Since it is some sort of developers' tools, and for Vista, can I just uninstall them?? |

Re: Unusual .exe in add/remove programs!
If I were in your situation, I would set a system restore point (just in case) the uninstall all that developer stuff and see what happens.
How it got there I know not unless you installed the net framework stuff with the new Paint program or any such ? |

Re: Unusual .exe in add/remove programs!
Yes I had to install .NET to try out Jing (from Techsmith - the Snagit8 folks)
I'll do what you suggest. Thanks for your help. All those m.... exe files are also part of this .NET install? |

Re: Unusual .exe in add/remove programs!
Is your lappie a Dell.............if so all these other progs appear to be something to do with the Dell reinstall/backup of the OS.
You should maybe take better advice than I can offer, possibly a visit to a Dell website/forum. |
