>>How Secure is Wireless?<<

We have dial-up at home so I always come here to this Wireless Hotspot. It's so fast I'm amazed. But how secure is it?...Upon clicking to connect my laptop to go wireless, It mentions that ..''Information sent over this network may be visible to others''... It's comfigured for Open access....WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?.will my passwords and anything I type be visible to people using this wireless connection only or will outside people be able to see it to?

Not quite visible to everybody, but if anyone is monitoring that traffic, they will be able to find out your passwords, yes.

Re: >>How Secure is Wireless?<<

wii zil,

What you are doing is morally wrong, as in essence of fact, you are 'stealing' some elses Internet connection, for which they are paying for.

Do the right think...upgrade your own connection!!

Note - Reopened and infraction reversed.

Wii_Zil ... Jack.Sparrow's post is spot on. You as the user need to weigh risk vs reward. I would keep the online banking and purchasing to your dial-up account (plus anything else that would subject you to possible fraud and/or id theft). With online shopping, you could use the hotspot to do your research and build your cart (most sites allow you to save a cart or wishlist), then go home and do the actual transaction via dial-up).

Re: >>How Secure is Wireless?<<

The same thing applies. If someone is watching the traffic, they could get your passwords, but if your email can not identify your personal details, then you should be ok.
