But they can be used to track the websites you browse and other personal information.

Re: Cookies Legal or Not
As koala said, cookies can be used to leak out private information, and track your web history to provide to other websites. Usually Spyware and Malware proponents.
They can also contain JS to throw out Ads and redirects on your webpage. You are best to have them blocked or "prompt", as then you have control over what you leave on your system. I use CookieCuller in Fx to manage them. |

Re: Cookies Legal or Not
I haven't tried CookieCuller yet. I block all cookies, then add the ones I need to the Firefox Exceptions list (like TSF, google, amazon, etc.)
Would CookieCuller be any better?

I've attached a screenshot when using the BlueShift theme. As you can see, it allows you to protect a cookie so that it's not deleted no matter what, unprotect it, and remove all or just one of them manually when they are installed. It also adds the option to disallow any removed cookies from being installed ever again. Furthermore, you can see the domain and expiry of the cookie (which Fx lets you set to delete at the end of the session anyway). For me, it's nice for easy access through the toolbar button when troubleshooting or allowing/removing cookies. But if you have no problem using the default provided management, it won't really add much-a difference. YMMV.

Re: Cookies Legal or Not
The protect feature looks good, but I don't delete cookies when I 'clear private data' so I wouldn't really need it. I'll stick with the Exceptions list and firewall options. Thanks anyway.
