Outlook insanely slow- something running in background?

Posting here because I'm beginning to suspect something is happening in the background and can't figure it out. Not getting adequate response from Office forum where the problem is occurring.

Outlook is insanely slow- loading slow, I type text, takes minutes to see it on screen. Then next day, it's fine. Today it's slow again. I hear some program running in background and can't figure out what it is. Ran spyguard, AVG, adaware and nothing signficant found. But I suspect something is up since this is a new occurrence- last 2 or 3 weeks and getting worse. Browsing seems ok.

Any ideas?

Re: Outlook insanely slow- something running in background?

Just a quick thought...it wouldn't be your AV running in the background by any chance?

Re: Outlook insanely slow- something running in background?

Do you mean my AVG virus checker? If so, it has always been there. I haven't made any changes to the set up recently to coincide with this outlook situation. Even so, if it were running in the background, why would it delay the display of text? And how would I check what is running in background. A user in the office forum told me to go to administrative tools and click on event viewer. I did that but wasn't sure what that would do nor what I was looking at.

what do you think?

In either case, the whole system feels messed up. It's all really slow. Any ideas?
