Re: Do We NEED this???

For one to definitely need this high-priority update, all three following conditions must be true:
• You install either of the following non-English versions of Windows: Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003
• You install and configure a Unidrv-based printer.
• You install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.

If one doesn't meet the above criteria, he/she won't be missing any functionality or facing problems.

Re: Do We NEED this???

update: this is wut I did...

1) can not stand little gold shield, OK? Want to take instrument and remove the pixels from my LCD where it appears......so

2) I ran all my get rid of garabe/temp/junkfiles utilities....felt the hovering hotfix was lurking in a temP folder.....cleaned registry.

3) Changed hotfix thingy from 'download but ASKs me 2 install" to "neither download nor install, JUST NOTIFY ME."

4) REBOOTED.

5) the thing came in AGAIN. Gold shield is back.

6) Should I now turn autoupdates off altogether?? I hate that THEY have decided this thing is "critical" for ME....when I NOW KNOW IT IS NOT.

I disabled autoupdates, cleaned temp files, rebooted and this, attached, is the result. Disgusting....and it bears symbolism of whole abysmal reality of MS

This computer...like my lappy, belongs to ME, not MICROSOFT.

Pls somene, tell me how to get rid of this. I am not rolling ovah and installng that which I now know I DO NOT NEED, SO DO NOT WANT.

Thank U.

Re: Do We NEED this???

@Ariesjill, why resist it? It's just some some software incapable of self thought.

Allow it to install & then reboot. You can then uninstall it from add/remove. Look for KB934238

Re: Do We NEED this???

Hello Jill,

Further to what sUBs has suggested; here's an alternative to remove that pesky shield, try this....

Go into Control Panel > Security Centre > Automatic Updates; now change the permissions to Notify but don't automatically download or install them...this should get rid of the Red X Shield.
As for the "Gold/Yellow" update shield, double click on it and then cancel the download...this ought to cure that problem too.

Once you have done that, visit the illustrious Microsoft® Windows Update Site, and select a Custom install rather than Express..in here you will see all the updates that they want to give you, and you can choose not to install them by clicking the + sign and ticking the box "Don't show this update again"....Hey Presto!...no more gold/yellow shield!

Give it a try and see if this helps.

Regards,

(Just how I feel....but I do THINK.....THE "Uh-UH.. no U DIN!!!"/bite me, MS.... MAY be in the post above!)

Thank U, David.

Re: Do We NEED this???

Teeeny issue precluding this fix:

I noticed a while back, that while I have "show updates" checked n Add/Remove....they do not show. am sure it's somtetin I configured.

I am fully patched....believe me.

Tried W explorer, tried Start>Search....can not find them, I may be keying in wrong stuff in field. But also now get THIS IS PART OF MY PUNISHMENT from the Monopolists

Now....all I need to get happy and take back my butt.....is route to finding the hotfixes so I can DELETE THIS LAST ONE I did let come in again and, this time, installed....and is now HIDING FROM ME.

Thank U....means a lot 2 me no matter how petty the problem is to anyone else.

Re: Do We NEED this???

Pls hang in with me on this, guys....I C I need 2 fix something RELATED: hidden hotfixes..I opened '"windows" and went thru all the files I felt might be hiding my hotfixes....finally found them, C attached.

But....the new, needless sneaky from today, KB934238....is not there!

also C on the left, it says "hidden" so I get that I need to reconfigure sumthin in maybe "folders" in control panel???

I am going 2 find this thing, OK?
Thanks again.
___________________
Edit: just looked in "folders" the bullet is IN the "show hidden folders' circle! I don't get wut is wrong and why most of my hotfixes don't show....forget where the sneaky one is.
