Have a virus. Need some way of removing it, and FAST.

I have a virus, it got onto my computer via MSN, which is why my firewall did not stop it. I have a virus scanner (ewido) that cannot detect anything it's put onto my machine, and another one that says it's found and quarantined a lot of different problems, but cannot delete them because I havent paid for it yet (something I cannot actually do). My computer for some reason did not have system restore turned on, and since I cannot pay for a virus scanner (I'm a penniless UK student without a credit card or American debit card) I am up the creek...unless someone here can help me.

Re: Have a virus. Need some way of removing it, and FAST.

Hi IanBrown_101, Welcome to TSF

If you do not have AntiVirus installed on your computer, I would suggest installing one. Below is a download to a very good free AntiVirus program:

*Note: If you already have an AntiVirus program running, do not install another

  • AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic

Also, what firewall do you use?

For AntiSpyware, I would download the three I have listed below (which are FREE) and run a scan with Spybot (the other two are real-time protection):

Also, TSF has trained experts who can use a tool called HijackThis to see if any infections are on your computer, then clean them out.

Please download HijackThis, then post a log in the HijackThis log forum on our site.

If there is anything else I can do, let me know.

I think one can backup important files, format their hard drive, and start over.
