wish to make a "hyperlink"
i give people links often. on this site, i want to make it possible for the person who wants to take advantage of my link, to:
1. move their cursor over the link, and the link change color, indicating that it's "special". 2. for the person who uses the link to go to the intended target. also, is the correct name for such a link, a hyperlink? i've seen that term used before, but it's explanation wasn't really clarified. grumpygit said the icon (above) with the "world" was the icon used to make this happen. keep in mind, my usual way of obtaining a link, is copy and paste. any explanation would be most appreciated. |

Re: wish to make a "hyperlink"
Hi
I just type in the BBcode these days - [ url] at the start and [ /url] at the end. Remove the extra space before the 'u' though... Even if you just type a normal URL, when you preview it should appear as a link, e.g www.google.com I did not type anything other than www dot google dot com. Use the quote button to see that BBcode has added the url tags to the google link.

Re: wish to make a "hyperlink"
glas,
some of it, i understand, but not all of it. i don't know what a "BBcode" is. on many IT sites, a hyperlink is automatically created by the site. if i type www.ebay.com, it automatically becomes a hyperlink. i wanted to furnish a poster with a hyperlink to a sticky/tutorial here at TSF. to be specific, this one Closed: (Updated!) IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting A Log if you run your cursor over the title, you won't see it change colors, and if you click on it, it does nothing. it's not a hyperlink. i want to make it one. i could always go to the target location and copy the address like this http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...sting-log.html i think this does work, but i would prefer to make a simple hyperlink, like everybody else does. grumpygit told me that i need to click on the "world" icon, and a window opens, but only if pop-ups are allowed. this i don't know how to do, yet. so that's where i am at, right now. thanks again. edit. i went to the location and copied the second one fron the address bar. i didn't know i was creating a hyperlink. Re: wish to make a "hyperlink"
I think you've got it now - open the relevant forum page and simply copy the URL at the top, then paste it into your post.
My apologies - BBcode refers to the code tags used by the forum software to create bold, colours, links etc. Essentially, it's the format character within square brackets, as in the url example I gave earlier.

Re: wish to make a "hyperlink"
flatiron,
at first when i checked out the info you provided, it didn't make sense. then, after doing a google search and reading several articles it began to make sense. i was reading articles right up until i went to sleep. glas, no need to apologize. i was without knowledge, and had to honestly say so. it can be embarrassing and uncomfortable, but it needs to be done. in the end the good outweighs the bad. those articles that i read (and there's more to be read) said alot about the <>'s, what is in between them, and why. it was very easy to find the info about creating a hyperlink. i was surprised. usually most of what google comes up with is junk. thanks again for the replies. |
