I'm not sure if the post belongs here.. well..
Anyways, I have a almost 3-years-old ThinkPad running XP Home SP2 here, and it doesn't have good performance(I think it's because of the crappy hardware). I used to use Kaspersky 5, and when the license expired I tried ActiveVirusShield, Kaspersky 6, AVG Pro and Nod32. AVS and K6 causes tons of BSoD's while Nod32 slows the comp down by 100 times. AVG is the only one that's light on system resources, but it sucks(False positives, update bugs). I now use AntiVir Classic, which sucks a bit too, but at least it has no bugs. For AS, I used to have AVG Pro, but it doesn't work on my comp anymore(unknown problem). I then tried CounterSpy and TrendMicro but they all trashed the performance. Comodo firewall is also one of the reasons my laptop is dog-slow. So now I need advice on which AV, AS and FW programs are good and light on system resources? They could be freeware, but don't have to be. Thanks!

Re: need-AV, AS & firewall advice
I use Zonealarm pro for the firewall and Nod32 for the anti virus. I havn't noticed any slowdown with Nod32.
Zonealarm have a good free firewall aswell. |

How much system memory do you have?

Re: need-AV, AS & firewall advice
Thank you all,
Drew_: Nod32 slowed down my system 100 times. Everything went well with AntiVir but it sucks at detecting stuff(and I hate the pop-ups about buying the premium crap). Glaswegian: I read this before, but nothing good works on my laptop. PanamaGal: 512mb. BTW, I think the processor is Pent M. |
