My Myspace is acting up, and I know it HAS to have something to do with cookies.
I know i got the stupid virus (or maybe its been hacked, i dunno) but i went to my friend's page and later I saw that her Myspace kept posting weird bulletins and then shortly after that, mine did too so I know i got it from her. (Something about going to Las Vegas and getting a Gucci purse...I know, completely random) I deleted the bulletin. Changed my password. Deleted her from my friends (not to be mean haha) Switched around some security settings. Sadly now whenever i get on my Myspace it runs really slow, won't let me go to certain things, just IS NOT ACTING right, and when I click on this ONE bulletin it sends me back to my Myspace Homepage which is really bizarre, because i have never heard of a link to something sending back to the exact page its already on. So I checked the link and the link "wording" is right to where it SHOULD go but it doesn't. I would LOVE some help. I already downloaded a new version of AVG Anti Spyware and have run it about 3 times now, and the same TrackingCookies keep coming up. Here are the names: TrackingCookie.Revsci TrackingCookie.Realmedia TrackingCookie.Paypal TrackingCookie.Netflame TrackingCookie.Information TrackingCookie.Imrworldwide TrackingCookie.Fortunecity and a couple more but they have seemed to go away (I hope) They keep saying "Cleaned" after them in the scan reports but then I will run the scan again and they come up yet again. I am extremely good about computer upkeep and run virus scans regularly, and I have never had a virus on my Myspace before, i guess im just THAT OCD haha. I'm not a whiz at deep computer stuff but I know my way around. I'm saying that because I don't know what Cookies to delete manually from the cookies.txt file. I don't want to remove something vital. Thanks in advance! HELP! -laptopjunkie ps- UPDATE as of 4/10/07--9:01 PM : Hi everyone, okay, apparently... my whole page is one big link, or picture. When i put my mouse on my page, it does the little white gloved hand pointing. So I checked what link it was its this hxxp://vie dot wpicsmyspace dot com with stuff after it (that i don't know if i should post on here, privacy-wise i dunno), and when I tried to go to it it never loaded. Can anybody help with that part too? This is SO frustrating! Last edited by Glaswegian; 04-11-2007 at 12:44 PM. Reason: Removed live link - just in case.... |

Re: Myspace and TrackingCookies, its just too much for me! Please help me
first of all, here is a sticky for you to read. it's located in the hijackthis forum, right here at TSF.
(Updated!) IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting A Log you may remove the malware with this info. it's still a good idea to post a hijackthis in the proper forum when you're done. there are individuals who refer to theirselves as hackers, who have vowed to infect visitors to myspace for the whole month of april. if you want to keep from being infected, stay away from myspace. i have my internet options settings to block cookies, until i permit them. if you want to try this, go to internet options>privacy>advanced, and check the box to override cookie handling. also choose prompt first party cookies, and block third party cookies. the sites will be listed in internet options>privacy>sites. you can make changes there also. |

Re: Myspace and TrackingCookies, its just too much for me! Please help me
Thank you SO much for your reply, and that really does make sense about the whole month of April hackers, because the majority of people I know have been getting hacked recently. After April, things WILL or WILL NOT go back to normal? Will I be able to fix this?
I'm a little confused about the sticky about Logs. Can you explain a little? Thanks Also with the Internet Options-- I have Mozilla Firefox. But I went to Options>Privacy> and then it has Cookie related stuff: -Allow Cookies from sites (yes/no) -Keep Until (they expire/I close Firefox/ask me every time) -Exceptions (button) -Show Cookies (button) Thank you! I am exhausted I've been working on this for at least 7 hours trying different things, rebooting, updating, posting on help sites, etc. *sigh* glad to finally get some help! Re: Myspace and TrackingCookies, its just too much for me! Please help me
MySpace has a well established history for being hacked and passing infections onto end users in the "friend's network". I wouldn't even recommend being on it anymore, since November at least.
Those tracking cookies are not much and they can't really do much harm either. No way like bulletin and erratic page control as you say. It's also well known for a users MySpace profile being hacked. Your and your friends might be too and that means they target the computer that accesses the profile next. I think there's a script that one can use in your page that counters the common hacks and any redirections to a pseudo site imitated out to look like your own (happens after the hack). I'm not sure though, someone who visits the site regular should know. |

grumpygit,
i don't see an option entitled "advanced reply" available. see my screenshots. kalim, do you mean that outlook express may not have "advanced reply" offered? sorry again for going off topic, but when i give somebody a link, i would like it if they could just click on it, or that it changes color when the cursor is moved over it. thanks again. |

hey chill, im new here,
well it turned out that a hacker had just gone in and put in some of their own code in my "About Me" section, and I didn't notice it when I had looked before (Iv'e got alot of coding)haha. So, went in deleted their part, my MySpace went back to normal, then "Tom" apparently went and cleaned out all the bulletins for all of MySpace so that helped too. I'm taking ya'lls word and trying to stay off it as much as possible until April's over. After all of that my computer was still running slow so I just ran a few more virus scans and I was still getting the Tracking Cookie things. I took my computer to my school tech manager and he installed and ran his own virus scan (I haven't found out what it was, but I'll get back to you on that) and then he said that the Cookies weren't going to be any trouble. And now everything is back to normal! Thanks everybody hope this helps somebody in the future! -laptopjunkie |
