Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I think you'll find as many answers to this as there are users Everyone has his favourite programs. I personally use McAfee Internet Suite plus AdAware, AdWatch, SpyBot Resident and SpywareGuard. The main thing is that you must have antivirus and a firewall, but ONLY one of each. You can have as many of the other malware checkers as you want. Kaspersky has a good reputation amd AVG is a good free antivirus prog, but I'm know the guys here in the Security forum will give you good advice.

Regards,
Pilot.

that's a great idea. i have kaspersky av, but i wish i had gone with the suite. it was a bunch of hassle to get software programmes that were compatible. i would/should have gone for the 3 year deal for $140. not alot of money. i am kind of a newbie, but this programme is very easy to use, with phenomenal protection. if you buy it, it won't take long before you're glad you did.

I use Firefox as a browser to avoid many of the hackers who like to exploit IE. I also use AVG 7.5 anti-virus, Comodo Firewall, Spybot and Ad-Aware. All of these are free programs. I check for updates on the last two a few times a week and run them to look for problems. This set up has worked for me for quite a while. I would say that would be a good start. Welcome here.

The minimum protection you should have is an antivirus and a firewall. Most mainstream antivirus programs provide protection from adware/spyware, trojans and viruses, like AVG Anti-Malware, Dr.Web, Kaspersky, and NOD32 to name a few. Suites are nice, if you want all round protection instead of point solutions. The only suite I've ever tried was the AVG Internet Security Suite, it's a nice package, is easy to understand and use and provides adequate protection right out of the box at default settings. Personally, I have always used the Windows Firewall, it provides good inbound protection, outbound protection has never been a concern for me, I check outbound connections on my computer using other methods from time to time. I find the Windows Firewall being integrated into the operating system makes for better compatability with other programs that I use, with less impact on system performance. The best security, regardless of what security programs you run or how many you have, is the user behind the keyboard, your the first line of defense when it comes to protecting your computer. Good surfing habits go a long way, security programs are there to back you up.

I would go with Kaspersky AntiVirus 6.0 with ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall and SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster, and Spybot Search & Destroy.

But if you are looking for one suite with all that protection, go with either Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 6.0 or Norton Internet Security 2007.

AnalogX Script Defender- Freeware = http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...em/sdefend.htm
and
http://www.winpatrol.com = Freeware

An important thing to keep in mind, regardless of which anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and firewall you use

( http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx ) is to keep it UPDATED, just as it is important to make sure you have all windows critical and security updates +

Also check out (FREEWARE) = http://www.komando.com/downloads/cat...x?cat=Security
