Vulnerable? - Not Vulnerable? [resolved]
Hi,
I am having issues with my desktop. Preface: several days back, my aOL installation messed up and I discovered the toobar had become corrupt. I did whole new installatikon deleting the toobar, moved everytng into the new installation. Everything seemed fine….except AOL started acting out, OK? It will open on its own on boot….and then sometimes…just because it has some impulse. So, I scan meticulously for infection, nothing. Today, before scanning, I went to Housecall. It found some things, mostly wut the scans would have BUT, ALSO: 1) a BHO, HJT did not pick up, surprisingly, and…. 2) …a supposed net framework vulnerabilty (pls C attached). I am running XP Pro, SP2. 3) I let Housecall fix everything , re #2, though did use the link to explore. 4) Thennnn….I naturally went to MS W update, and it read everything and said, no, U R fully patched, Jill, all the fixes, hot, cold…..and tepid. Just as I thought. 5) Just ran Housecall again, everything OK except for #2….which I do not understand given #4. 6) Finally, this patch Housecall said I was missing but MS says I am not…..has 3 versions (pls C attached second screenie) and I don’t have 64-bit system….so IF I need it, I don’t know why or which. I appreciate any and all insights, Jill

Hi
You have Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 which has vulnerabilities that were detected and patched recently. Here's what you're missing: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922770 Download and install that update. As for AOL -- check in Start>Run>type: msconfig and hit enter. Under the "Startups" tab. See if its mentioned there. |

Thank U....as I wrote in my original post....part of my confusion was that I do not, in fact, have a 64 -bit system.....which was whyyyyyy I did not know which file to download. Now....I will get the wheels on this vehicle! Thanks, Kalim, Jill

New Prolem, Alas
Hi,
First, before I did the above, I downloaded Net framework 3.....perhaps that messed something up, I have no idea. I downloaded the proper file.....though MS site per se does not indicate I am missing it, and I checked 3X.... ....and the package will not open; I get the error message attached. It's always sumethin...... thanks, Jill

You can delete the d/loaded .exe file now. I don't quite know why if its downloaded correctly it isn't executing (not standard behavior) but whichever way, its irrelevant now. If you run Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0 or Belarc Advisor they'll inform you of all the updates you require. |
