Hi, recently I was compromised with SpySheriff, our pesky little friend, that is so fun to get rid of.
I have run through HJT, SmitFraudFix v2.133, Ewido, SpyHunter 2.8, numerous scans with Eusing Registry Cleaner, various Rootkit Cleaners, Adaware, Spybot, blocked all known items in SpywareBlaster, and ran a full virus scan on avast.

I have gotten rid of system32.html, winstall.exe, spysheriff.exe, and many of spysheriff's other components, ALTHOUGH I still have the "red bubble" which informs me that my registry needs cleaning, and installs Registry Cleaner 2.5.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit: I would just like to add this, I have no problems with IE, and I use FireFox anyways. My background is back to normal, and almost everything is in working order.. Except for the system tray problem.

I figured it out! I guess everyone who viewed this had no idea...

The malware was running an executable name ctpmon.exe. Although you tried to end the process, it would rerun a new ctpmon.exe from a prefatch.dll running also in the WINDOWS folder. So, I realized it was obviously telling itself to rerun itself, so I ended the process tree, searched for ctpmon.exe, and found the prefatch.dll and deleted both of them.

For others reading this thread, SmitfraudFix has been now updated to remove this pest, along with the RegistryCleaner foistware that comes along with it. For now, it does not take out the HKCU reg entry, just the HKLM.

One of the reasons you got no reply to your HJT log was that you posted it in the wrong forum.

If for some reason that file still exists, can you please do this:

Please download the Suspicious file Packer from Safer-Networking.Org and unzip it to your desktop.

Run SFP.exe.

Please copy the following lines into the Step 1: Paste Text window:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ctpmon.exe

then click "Continue".

This will create a .cab file on your desktop named requested-files[Date/Time].cab

Read the first topic for instructions on uploading files then start a new Topic, Title it ctpmon.exe for S!Ri, post a link to this thread and upload the requested files.cab archive from your desktop.
