which is better in Anti-Virus?
well I can rate the speed as Norton is the slowest Anti-Virus I have ever seen it use alot of my RAM I have only 1GB RAM DDR and 3GB AMD Athlon XP processor
1-KasperSky(was the fastest) 2-Mcafee 3-Norton AntiVirus(was the fastest) one friend told me to try AVG(I am trying it now) I just want to know which is better? I prefered KasperSky as its so small and so fast but I donnt feel well toward it as its only about 14MB So any Advice ???? |

If it's a small program and it doesn't cause any interferance with other AVs running, go ahead and keep it. It can't hurt. Anyone will tell you it's good to have 2-3 anti-spyware and registry cleaners because they catch what the others don't, same goes for AV (unless disk space is a problem or they cause interferance with eachother). I actually have about 3 different firewalls right now, I have to port forward things three times, but I rarely have to port forward things at all so it's worth it to have three.

Hi HammerOfTheGods,
I would strongly recommend only to have 1 AV as well as 1 software Firewall. They will cause conflicts and produce undesirable results. From Glaswegian's security article: Quote:

youngmuslm/HammerOfTheGods:
youngmuslm: Please expand on this statement: 1-KasperSky(was the fastest) 2-Mcafee 3-Norton AntiVirus(was the fastest) How can two be the fastest ? HammerOfTheGods: The free AVG is excellent, as far as I and many others are concerned. It is all I have used in about 3+ years and never had a problem. I have click on thousands of links, since I have worked on thousands of HJT logs. Dorts is most correct - One A/V and one Firewall. I know of no exception for 99.8% of PC users. Running more than one anti "walware" such as Spybot/Windows defender, etc, etc, should not be a problem, but just one A/V and one firewall. youngmuslm: What good is an AV/firewall if you have to turn it off to D/L a file ????? Either the file is junk or the A/V-Firewall is junk? Probably the reason that you have a lot of windows crashes. PLease read and then re read Glaswegian link. Pretty much says it all. Basementgeek |

ops srry I meant was the slowest lol ...
1-KasperSky Fastest 2-Mcafee Normal 3-Norton AV was the slowest (Srry Didnt notice this but I think Some people understand what I meant).... well I donnt Install AVs as they make my Computer Slower and the most Important thing that I care about is speed I Upgrade my RAM but I think my Processor Performance decreased alot so I am planning to get a new one but I install a FW to control my programs and to see if any unkown program wanna to Connect to Internet or trying to monitor my KeyLog Last edited by youngmuslm; 11-04-2006 at 03:10 AM. |

Yeah but I clearly stated they DO NOT cause me any problems, which I why I use them, and I only reccomended using them if they cause NO problems. And you are the first person I have met who would actually say to use only one spybot checker. Use AdAware and then use Spybot S&D and your likely to find things with Spybot that you didn't with AdAware.

Hi HammerOfTheGods,
I was refering to Antiviruses, not Anti-spyware. In fact, using more than 1 anti-spywares are encouraged. It seems you are the 0.2% of users which are using more than 1 AVs who do not have problems. May I know which AVs are you using HammerOfTheGods?

I only said I used more than 1 firewall, but I SUGGESTED using more than one AV if it didn't cause problems. I use the firewall that came with my computer, the firewall provided by my modem, and the firewall provided by my AV. I rarely need to port forward things as my firewalls detect them and ask me if I want to allow access, and if I say yes they configure it for me, so it isn't as much trouble as one might think.

Of the three, take the Kaspersky. Fast, lean, and gets the job done. The other two are more often misery than joy.

If you're referring to the newest McAfee V.11 I think not. Hordes of issues so bad that the admins are deleting posts on the McAfee forums by the dozens. It was a disasterous release. V.10 however was fine -- -but even then most tests I have read concluded that AVG has better detection rates than McAfee anyway. IMO you shouldn't run more than one A/V unless you mean NAT and a S/W firewal (for outgoing) together. When I test I have at times run two A/V's but I also know exaclty what i'm doing and also understand how to run one with on demand and the other resident, but I wouldn't advise that for 98% of users. Over the years I have seen Norton Corporate, NOD32 ,Kasperski, and F-Secure (user the Kasperski engine) consisently come out close to the top. For free -- AntiVir consistently beats AVG hands down. AntiVir at this time has as good of a detection rate of not better than Kasperski and NOD32, but it's ITW detection and resident will not be as good in most situations. With online scans freely availible there's just zero reason IMO to even consider running more than one A/V.
