Alternatives to McAfee

My trial version of McAfee is about up. Any better cheaper downloads available?

Heya!

Much to digest in that reply..thank you so much for the info. I have AVG on my old puter...seemed to work ok..of course it did die a horrible and halting near death on regular occassions..but it was a 98 as well. Would you have an option as to putting that back on XP? alooo..is there a firewall on this XP do you think? It is an e-machine and has onlly the temp software..not sure how stripped down it all is.

AVG have just released a new version, 7.5 and it's fine on XP. I would not use the XP firewall - see the article for several good firewalls. My own preference is ZoneAlarm.

Ok..Would I have to uninstall the XP firewall first and how would I go about that?

No dont uninstall it just go to:
Start --> Control Panel --> Security Center --> Windows Firewall --> Click on OFF --> OK

To my knowledge, Zonealarm would automatically turn off your XP firewall.

I got a display that read windows firewall setting cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running...do you want to start ICS service? This in response to the person who told me to just turn off the firewall instead of uninstalling it. Sorry can't bring your name up right now..but thanx for the info.

I am pretty confused here. Are you able to turn of the Windows Firewall now?

Yes - it can be turned off. But you have to have Admin previleges.

I had to uninstall McAfee to disable firewall and install AVG..does anyone know of a good spam/spyware. I downloaded AVG..but it said it was just for virus.
