Real time scanners
I know you should only have one antivirus program and one firewall running, but what about realtime scanners. At present I have AdWatch, SpyBot SD Resident, SpyBot TeaTimer and SpyGuard. Is there likely to be any conflict with these?
Many thanks, Pilot. Sorry, was reading a HJT thread about scanners so thought I would post it. Realised after that I should have put it in General Security. Please move if necessary. Last edited by JohnthePilot; 10-22-2006 at 08:41 AM. Reason: In wrong Forum |

Hi John
All those you have mentioned are fine together and will not cause conflicts. If you haven't read this already, there is a rundown on such things here (shameless plug of course ).

John
SF should just sit there and keep watch. Try uninstalling, a fresh download then reinstalling.

No probs - could well be a bad download - you never know. Let me know when you get it sorted.

Hi Iain,
That was a frightening experience!! I started from scratch and downloaded SnoopFree again. The same problem happened, so I uninstalled as before, which necessitated a restart. On restarting, AdAware and Dr Watson crashed and my system locked up. I rebooted three times with the same result each time. Eventually I had to go into Safe Mode and do a Sytem Restore. Thankfully, I set restore points at regular intervals so didn't have to go back too far. I'll go to Snoopfree's site and let them know what's happened. Regards, John. |

Thanks for letting me know John. You are the first user I've heard with any problems like that. I'll be interested in what the response will be.

Hi Iain,
Steve at Snoopfree has no idea what the problem is. Having sorted my system out yet again, I thought I'd give Snoopfree another go, but the same thing happened. Again, the only way out was to go reboot via Task Manager then go into Safe Mode and do yet another System Restore. I think I'll just rely on McAfee Privacy Service, Regards, John. |
