Problems connecting to the Internet

A friend of mines has trouble connecting to the internet, she has been trying everything possible to fix this but no help. Her ISP in NetZero and she is usings NT 2000. Sometimes she is able to connect and sometimes she isn't, most of the times she can't. I had a tech support guy remove all the junk in the HIJACKTHIS log and still the problem has not been resolved. Does anyone here no of any other reasons as to why this problem might be occuring and how it might be resolved?

You might suggest she call her phone company, and don't mention anything about internet/dial-up, but just raise a big stink about the phone service, saying that she frequently hears a lot of static when thalking to people and that at times it is difficult to carry on a conversation, and insist that they come out and replace the outside and inside lines and connections.

She might also try to then determie that her modem has no issues(or switching for a new one) = PassMark ModemTest = http://www.passmark.com/products/modemtst.htm

TZ Connection Booster Wizard = http://www.webmasterfree.com/softwar...er_wizard.html

TCP Optimizer = http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2104

She might also get a new HJT log, and post it in the appropiate section of this forum so that an HJT expert here can take a look at it.(I assume that you have determined that she has all of the appropiate protection).

Edit: Also check to make sure her firewall settings are correct.
