Norton Internet Protection 2006
Ok Here is my issue I wonder if anyone can shed some light. I reciently purchased a 5 seat license for Norton. It is the all inclusive product, spam, spyware and antivirus. After noticing that McAfee let in a multitude of spyware I figured it was time to move on and try some thing different. I have successfully installed this program on 2 other computers in my office and of course as luck would have it, installing it on my computer has failed. I have been in contact with symantec for almost 2 full days now trying to resolve this issue. From live support all the way to remote access support. It appears there were a few annoying little viruses that needed to be manually taken out. As they did all that for me, so now lets assume that all is fine virus and spyware free. I install the program the .exe goes through no issues tells me the program was sucessfully installed and upon reboot it wont start the program. About 1 min goes by and I get a message telling me that there is an issue with starting the ccapp.exe file. I have since manually (with symantecs help) uninstalled and reinstalled this program 3 times and still the same issue. I am wondering if the malicous viruses I had in my computer corrupted something. But I do know this, symantec has no idea what is going on and has placed my case on high priority. Any suggestions are welcome, I am thinking mabe a .dll file is corrupt or maybe a deleted registry line. I cant say for sure. Is there any way to put back all of the default dll's in windows and repair the registry if there is anything missing? aside for restoring a back up that may or may not be already corrupt. Any help is appreciated. I am very very seriously thinking about putting the winXP disk in and doing a repair to my OS. and then if that doesnt work formatting my drive and starting fresh. Thanks.

Try following these instructions:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=75996 I've had problems (too many) with Norton and finally gave up. If you can do a TOTAL remove then reinstall you may be okay. Hope that helps. Rod |

ALot of Norton's 2006 Products, especially the AV, have been having some problems. Since Symantec improved their AV with newer Virus and spyware removal, the rest of the Norton Internet Security 2006 has become more unstable. It is caused by a none system dll. Not sure what your problem is, but I hope that by the time Symantec releases its 2007 Product line, they fix this problem.

Well thanks for all the advise guys. I went ahead and make some decisions here. This was a pretty loaded machine with alot of programs. Most I need and some I dont. There were also a number of programs that were taken out and prob left some remnents of their existance on my computer. Seeing as though I am the Sys. Admin here in my Co. My computer has to be on point. So, I took the drain and backed up all my data and reformatted my drive. Well its a good thing I did. Long and short of it all is I did a hardware test after my back up was complete and found a failed RAM stick, one of 4 that I had. After pulling it out and passing all tests my reformat methods were being halted by a power down issue. Every time I would try to either use the preload software or the actual disk to reformat, the computer itself would get approx 1 min into the process and then shut completely down. I have gone as far as my knowledge will let me. Now I am a bit more seasoned, a local computer place (no name store) the kind everyone would like to know. Tech guys that really know thier stuff, found that my motherboard was failing, and or my CPU. Anyway I got it all fixed and now its a pleasure to use my comp again. And I purchased Bit Defender for an antivirus prog. WOW its amazing, all in one spy, spam, fire wall, and antivirus, all at a good price too. Thanks again. -- Joe.
