Need some safety/security advice
L.S.,
I've just installed installed WinXP Home on a three year old computer, updated it to SP2 and installed the following: - AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic (set to auto update each day) - HitManPro - Firefox - MS Works 7.0 This computer will go to an elder person who really is a complete nOOb on computers and even more internet and internet related risks. A person that is likely to click on each banner, po-up it is offered ect. I would like to make it safe to use in each way that is possible, without him 'seeing' anything meaning for example auto update, no install pop-ups for updates ect. What programs do you recommend to install? I myself use some, but I would like to hear your recommendations. Thanks, KoosHopeloos |

- AntiVirus Protection: I would stick with the AntiVir AntiVirus, thats good.
- Firewall protection: I would just go with Windows XP Firewall because unlike ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, you don't have to respond to popups. - AntiSpyware Protection: If you are looking to buy Protection, I would go with Webroot's Spy Sweeper. But for free protection, again since you dont want to have to respond to popups I would go with Windows Defender - which is really not that good at protection, but is more for novice users, and SpywareBlaster. |
