Symantec Real Time Protection Enables

I'm trying to permanently disable Real Time Protection on Symantec v. 8.00.xxxx (Troubleshooting an issue.)

I disable the RTP, and then exactly 30 minutes later, it automatically enables itself again.

I need it to stop enabling itself.

I'm checking through the registry and google. No luck so far. Anyone?

Hi Cleffer. I have NAV 2006. I am not sure if you have the same options, so here goes. If I right click the NAV tray icon (lower right corner of screen by clock), and then click "Disable auto protect", I get a window that opens asking how long I want to disable for. Choices of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 5 hours and "Until system restarts". Do you have those choices? It sounds as though your default may be 30 minutes. Check the system tray icon, and also check your Norton options and preferences for a similar time delay option. In options you should also have check boxes to turn on/off "Auto Protect", and another check box to turn on "Auto Protect" when you start Windows. Uncheck those. Hope this helps, and good luck.

No such luck. When I right click on the NAV in the system tray, I have only two options, one of them to open and one to disable RTP. Once disabled, I do not get an option asking how long to disable for.

The program configuration screen just gives me the ability to enable or disable real time protection. It also does not give me the ability to adjust the time frame.

I've been through every registry entry onthe machine for Symantec there is. I'm wondering if there is one I could add at:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Norton Anti-Virus NT\Auto-Protect

-or-

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Norton Anti-Virus NT\Auto-Protect\InternalSettings

...which both sit empty currently. If anyone could provide further options, I would be greatful. I'm still looking around Symantec's site as well as Googling this to death. I'll post here if I find an answer elsewhere. This has not been as easy as I had hoped.

Nevermind. I found it under the Advanced button that I didn't see until just a few minutes ago.
