reminds me of the coffee cup

i recently successfully completed a clean up of my system with your invaluable help. in the process installed ewido, kb912919 the MS security patch, hjt, aboutbuster, cleanup40. spysweeper and zonealarm pro were already installed , as is window washer, and updated Norton Antivirus (to 2006). since then my system has become progressively slower, startup takes an age, mail download is at snails pace (i am on a 576 kb broadband connection). Outlook has become unstable and writing this is taking an age. are there any conflicts that the security ware are creating? i saw the threads on Norton in General Security, which is a bit depressing, but i would like to be able to use my machine properly. thanks

Having multiple anti-viruses can cause problems.

Hi

What AV do you have? Spysweeper and Ewido are stand alone scanners, not AVs. I use AVG free - light on resources and updates almost every day.

Hi Iain
Norton , as i mentioned in the post above. but i have deleted spysweeper, and then spotted that pandascan had installed itself while i was cleaning up a week or so ago, so removed that, too. and just typing this i can feel the difference, and start up, after reboot - took about half the time.
what is AVG - and i saw on the General Security page that the Forum is not able to provide any advice on Norton removal - it has them flummoxed, which may be a good or bad thing.

Here you go

It's good - use it as part of your overall protection. If you haven't already, download any of the programmes in my sig below.

Norton is reputed to be a resource hog and really integrates itself into the OS - but I've never used it so can't really comment.

Ah, so it is the ewido people. thanks for that, having just paid for the renewal, and having established that, resource glutton or not it was doing its job, during my clean up, i guess i will stick with norton - can't afford to waste the money. but will bear in mind when it comes to changing my machine. thanks for your help and suggestions
