thanks in advance for helping me with this dilemma. My mother (63 year old) is having a lot of problems with her computer security (see runs XP) after allowing her teenage grandchildren to use the pc over the last few weeks.. this is causing quite a problem as this pc is also her home office computer and has alot of sensitive information stored on it... the main problem being now the pc appears to be infected with many critical errors... our version of PC Cillian ran out a few weeks ago and now we are getting pop ups galore saying the pc is infected and keeps taking her to a security type web page. What should I do first..... the other issue is when my mum purchased her pc from a reputable shop in Adelaide it appears to have been installed with an unlicenced copy of the os which of course stops from installing microsoft security updates... what should i do first... read and perform all the actions on the sticky's on the HJT page or must I purchase a full copy of the os and install it over the top of what is currently there... i am sorry to sound so confused here... but i am! hehehe this is honestly giving me a lot of grief as it is imperative that this system is operating for a two weekly pay day for 20 plus employees.... any help/advice will be most appreciated... i have subscribed to this thread to read of any updates.
thanks again - my mum will be donating to your very worthwhile cause.

Hello leeladee:
Please read this thread Please download HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS\ Run a scan and save the log file. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. Make sure to include the System information at the top of the log as well. Post your HJT log in this Forum and an analyst will help you. |
