Apple releases OS X 10.5.7 update

Apple released an update to its Leopard operating system yesterday that comes loaded with a host of security and bug fixes as well as added hardware support.

The Cupertino-based firm said OS X 10.5.7 patches several security loopholes related to PHP, CoreGraphics, Apache Web server and the company’s browser Safari.

Three separate vulns that could allow for arbitrary code execution have been addressed in the update for QuickDraw Manager, Apple Type Services and Webkit.

Meanwhile, Apple has added hardware support enhancements with extra RAW image provisions for third party digital cameras. The firm has also improved network performance when connected to certain Ethernet switches that have Flow Control enabled.

Video playback and cursor movements for recent Macs that come loaded with Nvidia graphics components have been improved too.

OS X 10.5.7 fixes a glitch some users had when logging into Google’s Gmail as well as better syncing of contacts in Yahoo, said Apple.

The update to Mac OS X Leopard is available as a manual download via the company’s Software Update website.
