Sen. McCain seeking a pardon for Jack Johnson
Arizona senator John McCain wants to clear the name of fighter Jack Johnson, almost 100 years after the fact.
McCain who believes that President Obama "will be more than eager" to pardon Johnson, the first black heavyweight champion, who was sent to prison because of his friendship with a white woman. The woman, Lucille Cameron, would later become Johnson's wife. Johnson was convicted in 1913 of violating the Mann Act which made it illegal to transport a woman across state lines for immoral purposes. "We need to erase this act of racism which sent an American citizen to prison on a trumped-up charge," McCain said, "I have great confidence this president will be more than eager to sign this legislation and pardon Jack Johnson." http://blogs.usatoday.com/gameon/200...k-johnson.html
