Walter Ray Williams Jr.

The world's number one is turning 50 next year. That means he'll be eligible for the PBA Senior's Tour. Does anyone know if he'll be ineligible for any non-senior events once he turns 50? If so, personally I think that's a shame as he still has so much power left in him and he'll more than hold his own against the younger bowlers. He's already won a title this year, his 45th.

Parker Bohn III is having some trouble this past couple of seasons. The lefty hall-of-famer has only won 2 titles in the last 6 seasons, and seems to be stuck at 31. Hopefully he'll get better this year.

Re: Walter Ray Williams Jr.

Many years ago I faithfully followed the PBA on TV...Earl Anthony, Mark Roth, Marshal Holman, Pete Weber......etc. Do the networks still carry decent coverage....I only find reruns.

Is WRW Jr really turning 50?? Wow, I'd love to be 50 again.....

I don't think his age will be a factor in which tournaments he will be eligible for.... I think it means he will be able to participate in more tournaments. He now has the option to compete with seniors but is not restricted to seniors only.

I could very well be wrong..... maybe once going to a senior event will prevent him from returning to the regular tour??

Re: Walter Ray Williams Jr.

ESPN covers it quite faithfully.

Anyway, do you think he'll still play in the PBA Tour or will he go to the senior tour?

Re: Walter Ray Williams Jr.

I think he will stay on the PBA tour.... you only move to the seniors when you start losing your edge. If you can keep up with the kids, go for it!!

Re: Walter Ray Williams Jr.

He's currently 5th in points (not that it matters, since he's already exempt for next year from winning his 45th title earlier this season). Now that this season is wrapping up, I think some interesting things for next season. John Nolen's got his 2-year exemption from winning the Masters, Jason Belmonte might go on another month-long stint, Walter Ray's turning 50, Bill O'Neill is still looking for his first title despite having 6 TV appearances this season. Fellow Canadian George Lambert IV has a chance at topping the non-exempt players, earning him an exemption for next season. Tommy Jones and Pete Weber hopefully will get back on track after a disappointing season. Still too early to tell how Rhino Page will do, after an up-and-down season. Patrick Allen will hopefully carry over his awesome performance this season. Most of all, will Wes Malott continue his dominance? This has been a truly amazing season, despite the prize funds going down by quite a bit.

Yes, he was a world champion. I think he started horseshoes first, then used those skills in bowling.

Re: Walter Ray Williams Jr.

Yup, he started pitching when he was 10. Won the Jr.Boy's World title 3 times and the Mens Word Title 6 times. You would think that and his abilities at bowling would be enough, but he is also a 3 handicap in golf!

Plus a physics degree at Cal Poly Pomona. LOL, and this week he just beat Tommy Jones in match play to advance to the round of 8 at the GoRVing Match Play Championship.
