Should Rubens Barrichello Retire?
Many say yes, but this leads me to ask: why do F1 drivers retire so early, even earlier than many other professional athletes? I know it requires immense physical ability, but so does NASCAR and Indycar and their drivers last so much longer. Anyway, do you think Barrichello should call it a career, after 16 seasons of better-than-decent-but-never-exceptional performance?

Re: Should Rubens Barrichello Retire?
Hmm... maybe if he retires he can get a ride in NASCAR. But he has already confirmed that he was going to retire from racing entirely if he can't secure a drive for 2009. Which sucks, I think, since he still can put up decent performances and should stay for as long as he can.

Re: Should Rubens Barrichello Retire?
I asked myself the same question when Hakinnen and Schumacher decided respectively to retire some years ago. I still think they were still capable of wining some races , but unfortunately we will never know.

Re: Should Rubens Barrichello Retire?
OK, 6 months later, even I'm surprised. Not only did Barrichello keep his drive on the new Brawn team, but he's actually doing very well. Unfortunately, Jenson Button's doing even better, winning 5 of the first 6 races of the season, and leading the drivers standings by a considerable margin. Too bad, since Barrichello's been playing a number-two role for most of his career and never really had a chance to shine. He's having a great season, but it would be great if he had just won a championship once, or even a couple of races this season. Do you think he'll continue driving for Brawn in future years?

Re: Should Rubens Barrichello Retire?
I thought he was due for retirement, and now I see him in second in the championship with Brawn. I agree that he's usually been the 'number 2' in teams; I remember at Ferrari he was number two to Schumacher.
