Youth Soccer

Now, as I am sure that yustr will care the most about htis, I am just too proud too let it sit in a pm(though I will have some pics to PM as soon as the wife scans em.)

I coach my sons' soccer team. We are 3-0-1 through the first 4 games. We are out scoring the oppents 13-6 in this span. My best players are a couple of girls. One has scored 7 of the goals and the other has given up only 3 goals as keeper. Throw in another kid with 5 goals and a boatload of assists, and we are pretty good.

My kids? Well, twin A mostly whines about sitting out, but he moves real well wihtout the ball, He is bound to score soon. Twin B is a goon. He knows to kick it in the net, but he is always on the ball and usually takes it away, quite often by being tougher. He comes home with bruises and scrapes, but probably dished out more than he got. All in all, I am having as much fun coaching this year than I have had in years past.

Of course. All the kids get to play all the positions (though not everyone can play keeper). The neat thing is when the littler kids get to play forward, they do just as well as th big kids!

My 4 year old got smashed and got a bloddy lip and an almost microscopic tooth chip (dentisit says it's a baby tooth and it is no big) so we clean him up and he promptly goes out and scores.

Yustr is right, it is a good feeling!

Last night my daughter's playing and gets taken out by the opponents stud defender. As she's laying on the ground.

Mrs. yustr: "Oh my, I hope she's OK." to the agreement of the other moms.

Me: "Get up!" All the dad's just nod.

Exactly. My wife was coddling him and I told him to get back in. Actually, before the season started, I told them that that they could not cry or else the other kids would m ake fun of them.

So was she OK?

Yeah, she was fine. Came back in a scored a couple of minutes later. Thanks for asking.

She's got 6 goals so far - of the 9 total her 0-8 team has scored.

And, considering she's playing out of position - she's a middle defender on her club team - I couldn't be more proud.

She should try out for the U.S. U-20 team.

She's still a few ranks below that elite level.

She has the strength, knowledge, and heart to play at any level but right now she lacks the speed, quickness, finesse and experience to compete.

The next time you take in a game, watch how pure the first touches are. How rarely a player is not in the proper position. How the pace of the ball is just right. I asked her club coach once what separates the various levels? His response: "The quality of the decision making and the time needed to make them. Elite players make the right (i.e. best) decision almost all of the time and do it nearly automatically." I hadn't thought of it until then but I can't argue.
