Who's gonna win the World Championship?

So, which national basketball team do you think will win the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan?

http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/06_wcm/index.asp

EDIT: Of course I'll root for my national team; I'm sure they can come back with a medal...

I'm only sorry that the poll cannot accept more teams, because there are some other good ones.

If the USA doesn't win - there's a bunch of millionaires who need to rethink their priorities...

LeBron and Wade and 3 other guys could win it all.

Game Report, USA vs Puerto Rico 111-100

Australia coach Brian Goorjian said: "It was a very important game for us. We came here saying, 'we'll try to do whatever possible to make it to the second round.' This is a huge, huge win for Australia."
I apologize from my numerous Aussie friends here in TSF, but since we're in the same Group (Gr. C) you shouldn't expect an easy ride with Greece...

I really think the US has this in the bag. It would be embarrassing if we didn't win......... but I don't want to say why

Eight-Finals

So, the teams that finished with victories only, are the following:
Argentina, Spain, Greece and USA.

Only one defeat for: Germany, Turkey and Italy.

Now, the eight-finals program:
Argentina vs. New Zealand
Italy vs. Lithuania
Turkey vs. Slovenia
Spain vs. Serbia & Montenegro
Germany vs. Nigeria
USA vs. Australia
France vs. Angola
Greece vs. China

As you can see the way the groups are organized, I believe it's to be expected that the one semi-final will (hopefully) be Greece vs. USA. And I have only one thing to say: Beware of the crazy Greeks!...

Well the Aussies put up a good fight in the first but the 2nd was what killed them.

The USA should win but they are only human.
They have a good team that is not just made up of the highest paid which is good for them, seeing that hasn't done them any favours over the past few years.

It is going to be close

Semi-finals

Well, it doesn't seem there're many basketball fans around in tsf, but here's the four teams that have made it.
I personally believe this quartet comprises of the four best teams in this tournament.

Greece vs. USA
Spain vs. Argentina

Spain got it!

So, everyone who has voted in this poll loses;
S p a i n won the FIBA 2006 World Championship at Japan.

Game Report link

The Greek team played without focus in the Final Game and lost 47-70.
Both defences were good, however the Greek offence really sucked...
It was a very fair victory for Spain, their first gold medal in a Mundobasket.
They had been six times second in the past, and actually today
History rewarded the great Spanish Basketball School.

Final rankings:
1. Spain
2. Greece
3. USA
4. Argentina
5. France
6. Turkey
7. Lithuania
8. Germany
