Soccer

This is probably not the best place for this, but since I moderate this forum, I figured it'd be ok.

I got to sign my 4 year old sons up for soccer this weekend. I bought the the cleats and shin guards and we practiced for a couple of hours yesterday. It was a good feeling!!

They're so cute at that age. So low to the ground that when they fall - and they do all the time - they just kind of sit.

Advice: For the first few years they should only dribble. (Yes years!!! You'll never get away with it but you could try.) Just dribbling. Learning to control the ball at their feet. After a while throw in some juggling to get the ball in the air. But No passing. No defending. No shooting. All that will come easily with the confidence they'll have in their ability to do what they want with the ball. (Oh btw: Its not my advice but from a former Womens National Team Head Coach.)

Most importantly: have fun. All of you.

My son's turning 20 this year and some our best times are still when we sit and discuss soccer.

OMG, dribbling is all I do with them. I always tell them not to look at the ball too much becuase it is on the ground and you know where it is. Some throw ins for good measure.

I wish my daughter would play, she can punt the ball 25 yards on a good one.

My future roommate wants to start up a 'for fun' team once we're in college... I don't know how well that'll pan out; I haven't played in at least 7 years.

On Sat, my son, daughter and I went to the field to run. My son was practicing his field goals (he'll try to walk on at his new school) and my daughter challenged him. She actually made a 35 yd'er. Better not let the FB coach see; the soccer coach would never forgive her. Too bad CT doesn't allow dual sports - like IN did for my son's first 3 years- then she could be the only girl playing HS football in the state...

Most colleges have intermural sports. The prob is getting the players to show up...you know...they're so BUSY studing and all...
