GOP party better wake up; if Bill Owens winning the election in upstate ny isnt a message to the Rep's I dont know what is.

time is NOW to banish limbaugh to a deserted island somewhere without any form of communication along with Palin and start hunting for some real talent and re-define their platform. They need to adopt something else beside "horse and sparrow" economics or get used to the role of minority "no" sayers


the last time upstate ny had a Dem congressmen was during the civil war; that should be "screaming" something to the GOP party, but do their ears have functional holes?

And Obama failed in New Jersey that elected a GOP candidate... and NJ is a heavy blue state and lost the governership in S.Carolina.

Seattle also booted Nickels (D) in the primary and right now the votes are McGinn (D) leading with 65,172 votes against Mallahan's (R) 64,657

And thats freaking Seattle...

You forgot to mention that the Republican nominee might as well have been a Democrat and ended up dropping out because most of the traditionally Republican voters turned to the Conservative Party candidate who better reflected their views.

Couple this with the fact that Scozzafava dropped out only several days before the election and had by that time already received a large portion of the mail-in votes and you have yourself a split vote on the more conservative side of the equation making it a relatively easy win for the liberal Democrat.

The real question here isn't why the Republicans aren't moderating more, but what would have happened if Scozzafava had never entered the race and it had just been Hoffman and Owens.

Scoffaza was not supported well ($$$$) by the RNC; they left her hanging more of less, when she finally realized she could not get herself put out in the media like Owens and Hoffman were, she bailed out just days before the election. as she was torqued for the lack of funding from the RNC she then endorsed Owens. She stated on the news the other day, the RNC just opened the check book for Hoffman.

but regardless, the Dems have never had a snow balls chance in hell here of ever being in contention for winning the congressional seat, till now.

Hoffman is typical of what I see of the RNC lately, a millionaire coming out of nowhere looking to secure more "oats for the big horses"

if the RNC thought Hoffman could have been the winner, they should have grabed him at the start, and had the RNC been smart enough to keep Scozzafava in the race owens would have been beat IMHO, another spoiler if you will.

the tv ad where he just received $500,000.00 in PAC money from the group that wants to privatize social security by investing in the stock market
put the lid on him here in this area; as if the wallstreet boyz aint fat enough >>>> and he didnt even dispute it!


along with promises to the high income people to fight against tax increases for those over $250,000.00 & still supports tax credits for corporations that outsource jobs overseas.


The conservative GOP IMHO needs to figure out the days of trickle down economics is OVER

somewhere in the middle of what Obama is trying to do (socialism) and allowing rampant corporate greed to flourish is where the GOP needs to re-group themselves.

Scoffaza got almost one million dollars out of the RNC. I don't know where you got the idea she got almost nothing. She had the support of most of the top dogs in the RNC. It was the locals who started the rebellion against her, and then it got picked up nationwide.

She was well funded and backed by the RNC until Hoffman came on the scene as a true third party canidate, thats why the RNC didn't back him right away...

Scoffaza screw Hoffman at the last minute by 1: leaving here name on the ballot that garner 5% of the vote, and being an idiot and backing the Dem

Overall, I think that a lot of the election results have less to do with party, than the candidates involved and how they chose to campaign. Actually, NY-23 has had several Democratic Congressmen since the Civil War. Check out this article from Wikipedia.. Over the years, there has been lots of redistricting, so many areas currently in NY-23 haven't had a Democratic Representative for a long time. In fact, District 21, contains the parts of District 23 that have been the most Blue traditionally. So it's fair to say that the vote in NY-23 represents a shift, but not the kind of radical shift my noble party would like to claim.

I'd say that if you want to find an election that says a lot about the Nation's current state of mind, just look at the Governor's race in Virginia. Creigh Deed's, the Democratic candidate, ran an unrelentingly nasty, negative campaign full of personal attacks on McDonnell. Never mind that McDonnell had not only said he repudiated many of his former positions, but had consistently acted in ways that demonstrated his views on working women, etc. had changed.

McDonnell, on the other hand, ran a campaign based on how his policies would make things better. And he courted the moderate vote instead of The Base. Looks like a snapshot of a recent Presidential campaign in many ways. Of course you can read commentary by Charles Krauthammer, et. al., that says this isn't so, but I think those guys aren't getting it.

3,000 votes in favor still say Hoffman isnt the winner & in the past for oodles of years a DEM congressmen hasnt had a snow balls chance of hell getting elected in our area.

now that has all changed; Conservatives need to get it together; define their party into a platform the masses will support. Gone are the days of trickle down economics of the GOP party; our economy and global competition has changed too much to support that way of thinking. Gone are the days of letting big corporations feed un-regulated out of the trough only to find it leads to the current econmic collapse and the sparrow (every day worker) pays for un-fettered greed.

we need a middle of the road party ...........not a "give it all away" left nor the "trickle down right"
