President Barack Obama Thursday night called out his critics in Congress for blasting Democratic attempts to overhaul health care without proposing solutions of their own.

"What I reject is when some folks sit on the sidelines and root for failure," he said at a fundraiser in San Francisco where he was joined by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

"I'm busy," he told the crowd. "Nancy's busy with her mop cleaning up somebody else's mess. We don't want somebody sitting back saying you're not holding the mop the right way.

"Why don't you grab a mop? Why don't you help clean up?

"You're not mopping fast enough," the president said, imitating his critics' comments.

"That's a socialist mop.

"Grab a mop!" he demanded. "Let's get to work."

As I've said, many are saying no because their constituents want them too... are you advocating simp that they do not listen to them?

Are you advocating that they ignore them because why not, the right has no power?

That they should put in legislation for the good of the nation instead of good for their district?

Remember, they dont represent the country, just that small piece of land.

I hope you are right about their motives . . and the ones you state are good ones. I don't know how many actually were elected last year . . not many I would guess. My irritation comes from the ones who are holding onto political dogma for the sake of the dogma itself.

Clearly some are only out to styme the current administration in hopes that the next election will bring more members to our side. I have doubts that will actually work. These guys were elected with a pretty strong mandate, and blocking that mandate may cost us even more seats in 2010.

Some are defending the conservative view that the government should play a smaller versus larger role. . . which is were I stand usually. In this case, I am starting to wonder why the greatest country in the world, with the greatest health care in the world, has such a large percentage of its' population not being able to afford that health care.

I am truely conflicted between my conservative views on government and the misery I see around me as folks loose their jobs thru no fault of their own and loose health coverage ( or are having to pay the exorbantant COBRA ) or who change jobs and loose coverage for pre-existing conditions ( and us older folks have plenty of that )

I do worry about the "Japan won" mentality that the overwhelming defeat last November was just a "statistical fluke" and that folks really did not know what they were getting when they voted with their middle fingers.

Most of all, I worry that if we as a party do not first recognize where we went wrong and accept that we have to change, more than medical care will be passed by an ever increasing majority of Democrats in congress. I worry that we have no viable candidates in the pipeline for 2010 and more importantly 2012. I worry that contnueing to cater the the "nutcase base" will continue to provide dimishing returns.

The good news is that elections have a pattern of swinging back and forth . . I jsut hope we can be ready whtn the pendulum swings our way and have a platform that embraces more than Rush Limbaugh, his little brother Glen Beck and Sarah Palin for crying out loud.

the rep party needs a serious reorganization of views and goals, they need to stop trying to draw from the Limbaugh,Beck and Palin crowd and seek a REAL voice, one all americans can associate with not just the extreme right.........extreme anything is a poor choice
