stats

Interesting Statistic

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St.. Paul , Minnesota , points out facts of 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Democrats: 19
Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by:
Democrats: 580,000
Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Democrats: 127 million
Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds:
"In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won by Republicans was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare.

Professor Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

One simple rule for everyone to learn: If you receive it in an email its almost certainly not true. As is this one: LINK

Please take a few seconds to check it out before posting here or resending that email. It makes you look foolish.

Better yet, if this is fiction and not fact (hard to tell the difference at times), then I suggest that this thread be closed.

Obama is a Democrat. There is nothing that forces there to be only two parties. (Over the 230+ years we've had a republic there have been numerous.) But, even though they claim to be opposing parties, their goal is the same: once in power - stay in power. By not letting anyone else rise up, they effectively control the whole game. Sure they win some seats and lose some others but regardless, they still have a hand on the tiller.

The structure is easy to understand. You can read our Constitution in 10 minutes. LINK If after reading you have questions, post back.

....so I won't close this thread.

Re: stats

Yes, "a" goal is the same. But many other goals are different, which reinforces the shared goal. I don't get how people can reduce the parties down to the same thing from the one shared similarity. And there are two large forces that keep it primarily two parties. The democrats and the republicans. Candidates from these two parties are automatically on the ballot in all 50 states. Other party candidates have to get approved in each state to be on the ballot for the presidential election. And the two major parties will just sue them and 1) stall the process until time runs out on them and 2) siphon what little money a smaller party has to offer its candidates. This is one of the few agreements the two parties share together. You have a duopoly essentially battling for a monopoly, and stomping out any intruders into their fight. ...yey democracy...

Edit - Still, this crappy democracy >>>>>>> theocracy.

This is sad but true. I would love to see a third, or even forth party to come in. Sadly, I doubt this will ever happen, or stay for any real period of time. I've come to grow disgusted with both sides, and I feel like each time I end up having to choose the "lesser of two evils", although I did try last time.

My sentiments exactly and I am very also disgusted with both parties. I tend to vote Republican for the National races because I believe more in their core principles they say (not always do) they represent.

I have voted for a Democrat several times in the national races, but generally vote Republican on the National level if everything else is equal.

I always split my ticket in all other state and local races. Neither of the major parties represents many of my views on how things should be. I do tend to like the Libertarian viewpoints, but never vote that way, because in Indiana, you might as well throw the ballot away. They don't stand a chance, so you lose your vote.

Re: stats

You want a third and fourth party like here in Canada?

Well we have 4 main parties and I can't believe the last one has this main seats ot be considered a main party

-Liberals
-Conservatives
-NDP (new democratic party (more for socialism)
-Bloc Quebecois (Want Quebec to be separate from Canada)
-Green Party (this one is rising in popularity) They seem to have some sane debaters in this party.
