Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment?
Some Chicago officials say anti-American resentment likely played a role in Chicago's Olympic bid dying in the first round Friday.
President Obama could not undo in one year the resentment against America that President Bush and others built up for years, they said. "There must be" resentment against America, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said, near the stage where he had hoped to give a victory speech in Daley Center Plaza. "The way we [refused to sign] the Kyoto Treaty, we misled the world into Iraq. The world had a very bad taste in its mouth about us. But there was such a turnaround after last November. The world now feels better about America and about Americans. That's why I thought the president's going was the deal-maker." http://www.suntimes.com/sports/olymp...sent03.article

Re: Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment?
Perhaps the real issue is that the delegates actually drove through Chicago during their trip to the states and saw the real Chicago and said nope. Which of course begs the question, why do one in LA??

I love it whan the Bushies go from "My Country . . Right or wrong" . . Love it or Leave it" to "My Country is crap and does not deserve the Olympics " when the politics suit that move

Re: Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment?
I'm not a Bushy, but I also realize that we have some areas of our country where the citizens run it in to the ground. I love how you paint with such broad strokes. I could think of other cities that would do better to host an Olympics than Chicago.
I gave 10 years of my life in service to my country and I don't waiver in my patriotism.

Did I call you a liberal there? I don't see it.

Re: Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment?
I do . . most of what I post in this forum is in jest . . iand as have said before . . we have more in common than I think you beleive . .
p.s . . anyone who voted a full Republican ticked in November as I did, has to have one hell of a sense of humor . . ( and a weak sense of smell )

Nothing like a good Stone Brewing AB at the end of a long day. Perhaps my choice of beverage says something...

Re: Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment?
Man . . it says a lot about politics in this country when its' leader is critized for making an attempt to do something that would benefit the country.

Re: Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment?
So you don't see anything wrong with him spending millions in tax payer dollars for his involvement? As much as people criticize Bush, you'd think that it would be OK to criticize BHO...but I guess it's different rules for him. We do have the USOC that normally is in charge of trying to woo the IOC in to granting the US an olympic host. Of course it's not typical that the city in question is the "home" of the president in office.
