Troopers' pay may go to $6.55 an hour

If a state budget isn't passed by next Wednesday, about 1,900 members of the Illinois State Police will see their pay cut to $6.55 an hour, according to union representatives and an attorney for those unions.

Cuts are being proposed statewide by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn unless a budget is passed. According to the homepage of the Illinois State Police Master Sergeants' bargaining unit, three sworn unions were called in for an emergency meeting Thursday.

Those unions include Teamsters Local 726 in Chicago, which represents master sergeants; Illinois Troopers Lodge 41 in Springfield, which represents troopers, sergeants and agents, and the Troopers Lodge Command Council, which represents captains and lieutenants.

Those unions were informed if no budget was in place by July 15, all union employees would be paid at the federally mandated minimum wage rate, which is $6.55.

If you're in a public service job that puts you in risk of bodily harm yours should be the last pay to be scaled back.

Re: Troopers' pay may go to $6.55 an hour

Donut shops are in a panic.

But seriously, legislators have one job: pass a budget. If they cannot accomplish that they need to be fired. That goes for the gov too. Here in CT they passed upwards of 300 bills but not a budget. If any of us did that what would the boss say? We've forgotten we're their boss.

Re: Troopers' pay may go to $6.55 an hour

This is called the "chickens coming home to roost." We (state legislatures and the Congress of the United States) have spent, and spent, and spent, and spent for worthless projects for so long and now they can't pay for them or the worthwhile things like State Troopers.

The important services like State Troopers are paying the price for negligent legislative irresponsibility. It might be time to throw most of the bums out and go back to being legislative bodies for the people instead of special interests.

Illinois politicians don't care about the state troopers. If the troopers aren't around, who i s going to arrest them when they get caught breaking the law?

Uh, are you implying that there may be some corrupt political figures either in Illinois or who are from Illinois? Surely, you jest!

Re: Troopers' pay may go to $6.55 an hour

I agree that History has shown that Illinois Democrats are crooked and most of them scumbags, but I don't actually think Democrats have a monopoly on that issue if you look other places.

Re: Troopers' pay may go to $6.55 an hour

yah think

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/26096.html

wall street "bought" their "bail-out" before Obama was even in office; I was reading an article the other day where Obama got 18 million towards the end of the election and McCain got close to that; thats not even talking about all the rest of the hands that were out

as a nation we might as well give up; our givernement is like a severely rotten stake; the fix is too big

revolution would be required now to effectively clean the givernement
