On Monday, June 15, the National Council of La Raza (La Raza), an open borders advocacy group, issued a statement calling upon Congress to ensure that illegal aliens are given health benefits if and when Congress considers health care reform.

Perhaps they're trying to keep the issue in the media. Illegal is illegal regardless of how you want to spin it. They aren't "entitled" to squat from our government, except of course a free bus pass to the border. I would simply like our country to enforce the existing laws and not let groups like La Raza try to dictate policy. I think Obama should let them know that his health care proposal will reach all communities of our citizens, not those here illegally. If La Raza truly cared about the plight of the Hispanic's in this country, they should start advocating their LEGAL entry.

Back to the Health care issue. They are already covered and can walk in to any emergency room and get their free health care without any problems, and they do if you have ever visited an emergency room. Too bad other real citizens have to pay and they don't.

If a real American (those who are legal) go to a hospital emergency room and you have worked your whole life and are an American citizen, they take everything you have earned through the years as a legal citizen including your house before you get the free care that illegals do. That makes a lot of sense.

The moral of this story is that if you are illegal, or a lazy drunk (not saying illegals are lazy) who has spent all his life earnings on booze, or simply refuse to work if you can find a job, you have free health care. An emergency room can't turn your medical needs down and they can't make you pay. Now that is REAL free health care.

The obvious answer is a nationalized one payer system where everyone get the same basic coverage. If you want more - buy it.

Insurance costs an average of $13,000 per family. How much of that is going to the insurance company rather than into treatment? How much is going to stockholder rather than treatment? How much is going to the CEO rather than treatment? How much is going to administration rather than treatment? And yes, how much of that is going to pay for the uninsured (only a small percent of whom are illegal’s) - who cost much more when their chest cold turns into pneumonia?

You ask, on what basis can the government do this? Read the pre-amble to the Constitution; right after "provide for the common defense" comes "promote the general Welfare". The Founders had it right; if health isn’t as important as national defense, it’s a not very distant second.

I wonder if in the flagelation in Washington over the Health Care propasals, if the current cost of providing health care to "undocumenteds" and "unfundeds" is taken into account?

If the number is as large as the alarmists say it is, it could be a powerfull part of the conversation.

If that's what the founders meant then we should have already have universal health care since the 1788.

You know... if we go to a single payer structure they should issue cards to show that you pay... no pay, no coverage...

I could even support the single payer structure as long as "everyone" had to pay for the coverage. No more free rides for those who are illegal or too lazy to work. However, don't let "non-payers" get a free ride on my dime.

I know some people here in town who do not have coverage, can't afford it they say, so they go to the emergency room for "FREE" treatment and meds. Well, they do have enough money to go to the Casino every weekend, and the rest of the week they drink up the courage to drive over there to the Casino. I am tired of carrying the "so called" poor. I do not object in caring for some of our Senior Citizens who are in a bind with not having enough money and are not able to work.

I have a better idea since we want "everyone" to have the coverage and even the illegal criminals. Let's all convince Canada that any American who crosses their border (either legally or illegally) that they should give us free health care if we request it. Now, that might be a good solution, so we can ship all the illegals and drunks over there for coverage (much like Mexico does on the border towns).

Anyone think Canada would buy that program????
