WASHINGTON — President Obama told human rights advocates at the White House on Wednesday that he was mulling the need for a “preventive detention” system that would establish a legal basis for the United States to incarcerate terrorism suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried, two participants in the private session said.

Swoon? I think not. This leftist has the ability to think for myself. Wrong is still wrong. But as the story points out Obama is willing to work towards a solution that's within the law, even if that means going to Congress and changing the law. Contrast this to Bush assuming he has imperial powers. So a change? You betch'ya.

BTW: I find your comment offensive. You really need to stop generalizing. Its not attractive.

It's a change, but not a good one. Obama just wants to codify the evil that Bush did. He wants, in essence, to legitimize what he did. It's actually much worse, because future administrations will now have the legal power to do what Bush did under controversy. That is, if Obama gets his way.

I agree with you that's its bad. I wouldn't say worse as laws can be changed. At least we get to talk about it, get to debate it, maybe get to have those we elect discuss it so we can render a verdict on them at the polls.

Preventive Detention Plan

Is that like a preemptive strike on a country because they might have had knowledge of a terrorist attack?

Define Suspect. Is that someone who is thinking of an attack, or who is believed to have committed an attack? And why would they not be able to be tried in court? Interesting choice of words. Almost reminds me of the movie with Tom Cruise and people having Thought Crimes.

Oh well. I guess you put a fancy twist on anything, and sneak it in with another bill anything will be possible. After 8 years of Bush I'm sure Americans will eat up what my dog leaves on the grass if he said he tastes better then lobster.

Drew does make a good point at the base of it. BHO is getting all he wants just like Bush got all that he wanted. It's easy when your friends have the power. I'd like to see how Obama would do with a GOP controlled Congress because he did nothing to cross the aisle as a senator.
