Drug czar pick's stepson charged with marijuana
President Obama's nominee for drug czar, Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske, on Wednesday said his family has experienced firsthand the "human suffering" of drug abuse, but did not mention his adult stepson now being held without bail in a Florida jail.
Mr. Kerlikowske said the success of the nation's drug control efforts are "largely dependent" on its ability to decrease demand, especially among young people, and thanked the Obama White House for promising to include local police in that effort. "Our nation's drug problem is one of human suffering. And as a police officer, but also in my own family, I have experienced the effects that drugs can have on our youth, our families and our communities," Mr. Kerlikowske, a 36-year law enforcement veteran, said when accepting the nomination. Mr. Kerlikowske's 39-year-old stepson, Jeffrey, was arrested last month for a parole violation and faced misdemeanor marijuana-related drug charges in 2006 and 1998. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...ith-marijuana/

Re: Drug czar pick's stepson charged with marijuana
Legalize the weed, save billions a year, and probably make millions a
year in tax proceeds. Then take that money and put toward thwarting the cocaine and herion traffic. Never happen though. I have no problem with Obamas pick, at least he is a little more in touch with the problem. I think its a waste of money filling our prisons and courts with weed smokers, but that is just me...

Re: Drug czar pick's stepson charged with marijuana
Im with ya on that manic... legalize the herb... gateway or not it will start to weed (pun not intended) out the prison population and save a load on tax money.
However, I would be happier if we messed with the coke and heroine... distribute it out but make it lethal. Several hundreds, maybe thousands will die, but a good majority would quit and everyone that still does it will question its source... Natural selection... if you were dumb enough to start using heroine, you aren't fit for society... but thats just me... And it looks like this guy was able to pay his taxes

Legalize them all, or you'll still have kids shooting each other in the streets. Does no good to just legalize pot. I mean it'll be good in the sense that you'll not be having people given life sentences for ingesting a chemical, which is ludicrous at face value, but no good in the sense that you'll still have all of the social problems that are caused by prohibition with all of the other drugs still on the black market.

And screw the tax on it. Why should THEY get a single penny of tax money from it when it was their ridiculous laws that have caused so much pain and suffering in these United States for so long?

Well, bry, if your stepfather isn't helping I'll pitch in. Bry, don't do drugs. They cloud your judgment, damage your body and interpersonal relationships, cost lots of money, and make it hazardous to operate a motor vehicle or heavy equipment. Potentially, your drug use may drive up prices for the rest of us. Bad bry623! Bad!

Re: Drug czar pick's stepson charged with marijuana
Here is a missed opportunity. HE could have came out and said that he has a stepson(with his last name) that is in jail on drug charges and he and his wife tried everything to no avail. And that if there had been better policies, his son would not be in the trouble he is in and that his policies would help ensure no mother gos through what his wife has had to endure. But no mention at all......... kind of like not mentioning anything about owing taxes.
