US Congress passes first Obama budget

WASHINGTON (AFP) — As US President Barack Obama marked his 100th day in office, the US Congress on Wednesday approved a 3.4 trillion dollars budget for 2010 that embraces some of his top priorities.

The US House of Representatives voted 233-193 in favor of the symbolic blueprint, and the Senate followed suit later 53-43 -- with zero votes from Obama's Republican critics in either chamber.

The mammoth spending guideline, which projects vast government deficits and a swelling national debt, sets the stage for pitched political battles on issues like Obama's plans to remake US health care, battle climate change.

Lawmakers in both Democratic-controlled chambers now shift to the actual annual spending legislation for fiscal year 2010, which begins October 1.

Drew- It's not real money, it's just a number...... a number that will certainly be the lowest in BHO's presidency.

Republicans might have filibustered in the Senate. But they didn't. What message can we draw from this outcome? Frankly, my guess would be that Republican lawmakers saw the error of their ways and decided to stand up for policies that were good for the country, and eschew narrow minded party politics.

Of course, I guess the two alternate explanations might be: 1. Sucking up to the Administration might help come election time. or 2. Let's go with the plan and if it turns to crap, we'll just blame the opposition. Hey! It's worked for us Pinkos the past!

I can see item number 2 on your list...

However it goes them same for the past eight years... democrats could have filibustered all of Bushes spending but didn't...
