Cop beats up child.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7917295.stm

Quote:
US prosecutors have released video footage of a sheriff's deputy striking a 15-year-old girl and throwing her onto a cell floor.

The video is evidence in the case against Washington state Deputy Paul Schene, accused of using excessive force against the girl in November.

The incident began after the girl was arrested in a car theft inquiry.

Footage shows the deputy lunge at the girl after she kicks one of her shoes towards him at SeaTac City Hall.

"We believe this case is beyond just police misconduct, it's criminal misconduct," King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg said.

"This is clearly excessive force."

Mr Schene, 31, pleaded not guilty to fourth-degree assault on Thursday.

The second officer shown in the video was a trainee at the time and is not under investigation.

The Associated Press news agency said that according to court documents, the girl complained of breathing problems after the incident and medics were called to check her.

Mr Schene's lawyers had asked the judge not to release the video, arguing that it would inflame public opinion and prejudice the deputy's right to a fair trial.

Fourth Degree Assault
in Washington:

Quote:
(1) A person is guilty of assault in the fourth degree if, under circumstances not amounting to assault in the first, second, or third degree, or custodial assault, he or she assaults another.

(2) Assault in the fourth degree is a gross misdemeanor.
A misdemeanor.

Severely beating a child is a misdemeanor in the State of Washington.

Conversely, the girl was initially charged with FELONY assault of a police officer for FLICKING HER SHOE IN HIS GENERAL DIRECTION. Those charges were dropped (thank GOD for cameras), but you see the obvious difference on how COPS are treated vs. how lowly civilians are regarded before the law.

Children flicking shoes at cops, felony. Cops beating the crap out of kids, not so bad, slap on the wrist.

But the system isn't all stacked up to favour the police. Burden of proof and meeting procedures mean that it is actually quite easy to throw a case out of court.

Re: Cop beats up child.

You're talking about citizen criminals getting off on procedural technicalities I think.

I'm talking about felon cops who are charged with misdemeanors instead of felonies because the justice system favors those who are on the side of the State.

God, don't they do "anger management" tests before they put a coo-coo bird in a blue suit with a badge? Clearly this man has an issue with anger, beating people up and then shooting people in the past. They should implement an ATP, Anger Testing Program and put these soon to be cops in precarious situations where they have to show how they handle it...undercover. Then, the police would know what they have on their hands.

BACKGROUND CHECKS ARE CRUCIAL as well in more way than one. Had I done that with some situations in the past, I could have avoided an enormous amount of pain.

Actually police departments are actively recruiting aggressive individuals and are hiring convicted felons as well. Not to mention combat veterans. It's quite a mess really.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? I have the perfect guy for them...ha, ha. And, he knows how to properly use a baseball bat In all seriousness, a good, healthy testosterone level is probably necessary, but extreme anger that will end up getting them sued for millions and publicly humiliated? That can't be what they are looking for. But, I do see how cops have to deal with the worst element of the universe, the criminals... drunks, rapists, murderers, etc. Can't be a good job and you can't be a pansy, but beating some innocent 15 year old. Misplaced aggression perhaps.
