Oscars

OK, So the stupid Oscars are on last night. Pretty much knew that Slumdog and that OD Joker guy would win (BTW, Fat Kate Winslett is much hotter than the skinny version). So obviously I am not going to watch it. I mean, if I wanted to watch a bunch of liberals rewarding themselves, I would watch the DNC or C-Span's coverage of Congress.

But it was late, and there was nothing on, so the I tuned in to watch best Actor. Sean Penn. I loved him in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He was great in I am Sam. I even enjoyed Colors.
But, I knew he was a loose cannon and that he would spew something out. I believe it is totally inappropriate to turn the Oscars political.

Way to go Michael Moore lite.

Re: Oscars

Hi Bry

Hope you had a good time watching the Oscars. You must have really been bored!! I have no interest in Hollywood.

Turning political is only the next step..... commercialisation has been around for a long time with the subtle exposure of name-brands.

Did any awards go to a person with real talent?? All it takes today is to have the right (augmented) body parts and to be in the clique. IMHO all the pros are either retired or dead.

Maybe it wasn't touted on the screen, but for political statement the election of a member of the SAG to the office of President was pretty wild. I won't debate his merits in office but will say he was one good actor

Okay, okay, this is all I hear in my chat room and I have something to ask... if these actors got up there and preached conservative politics, would everyone be bitching? I think it is because they preach liberal politics that people hate... and, I think Sean Penn is a great actor and had a great message about the inequality and abuses that occur toward gay people.... Them mixing their acting with politics is just another medium of expression and film is certainly a reflection of society, so Sean Penn making a comment on equal rights for gays was fine and appropriate and, with no disrespect, but Heath Ledger was a great actor and has been for a long time and happened to have the flu and took an Ambien and a Seroquel and his body had a reaction and he died... it was an accident, but he deserved that award for his great acting of the joker.

I just think everyone takes this one night so seriously... so what if they want to praise each other? Movies are a great escape in life and a most beautiful form of expression that can be thought provoking and life changing or inspirational, so who cares if they congratulate each other?

And, to play devil's advocate, Rush Limbaugh has zero college degree, was a DJ of music and now spouts his conservative politics on a radio show... how is that different from Sean Penn saying he hates the war; just a different forum, right? But, I guess an Oxycontin dope fiend who dates all types of women, is a fat and slovenly pig says he loves George Bush, I guess that is okay. (P.S. I love Rush, O' Reilly, Hannity, etc.)

And, if you don't like these people's politics, don't listen. Hyprocritical... perhaps, but look at stupid Ted Nugent or that old NRA guy... he was just an actor who liked guns. Who gives a care.

Such is life.

P.S. Kate Winslet is hot.

Re: Oscars

Well said. I didn't watch the Oscars. I have little invested in it currently. I did see Sean Penn's acceptance speech though, because some circles have seen it as controversial, so I was interested. Political, sure. Inflammatory? eh... not this one. I did a little research and found some other more inflammatory remarks, though nothing I've found nonfactual.

But I like the idea that conservatives can be champions against the fairness doctrine, citing free speech. But then they hear Sean Penn talk about equal rights and gay marriage, both relevant to his movie, for which he just won the award (are you detecting its relevance yet?), during his acceptance speech of said award, and they seem to suggest it's not the time nor the place, when it clearly seemed to be both.

If he got up there and said that this war is a good idea and that we should all own more guns and we should close the borders, etc. etc., they would be saying, "That Sean Penn fellow sure is clever." ha, ha. I mean I see their point... they are just actors and politics is politics, but one does not need a degree in politics to voice their opinion to anyone who wants to hear it. Guess it all depends on the issue... Shindler's List: Okay, because it discusses the Holocaust and the Jews.... Milk: Not good; promotes gay rights. Saving Private Ryan...good, talks about war. Brokeback Mountain.. bad, dudes are kissing....

So, the real hypocrites are these conservatives.... of which I am one, but don't let one night get under my skin. I appreciate the arts.

1) Yeeeey, bigotry!

2) Well, I agree with you here. I'll defend their right to live and love free, but I don't care to watch them enjoy such freedoms ;)

Re: Oscars

John Stewart of the Daily Show has just said as much, so vicariously, yes. I gather he was pretty good. I really hadn't seen it though.

Re: Oscars

When I see a movie I may say that that movie should win it but I did walk into my sisters room and I saw the oscars playing and this what I said

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

and then 5 secsonds later I walked out of the room.

Why can't they make a comedy section or something
Woot go Harold and Kumar!

I saw Gran Tirismo
did that win any awards? (I have no idea neither do I care)

Wasn't Optimus Prime the best actor ever (robot sounds and applause)
Did they ever hear about shortening the oscars by getting rid of the movie clips, cuz it'll be just as boring.

I used to watch the oscars to for the clips then just change the channel when they started spewing their crap
Oscars = Norton 360!
Grammy's = Dell!
Juno's = Supermodels fighting wth Bulimia spewing!
