Re: Bob Barr: Republican Bailouts-Without-End are as Big Government as it Gets

Wait just a minute. We need to get some clarity on this issue.

Just so I know all the facts (I don't know the numbers), please give me the exact figures of how many Republicans voted for this bailout fiasco and how many Democrats did. Please list both the House and the Senate so we know the facts.

If the numbers show that it was clearly the Republicans who are at fault, if the vote numbers showed they pushed this through even with a Dem majority in both the Senate and the House, then we need to know this important information. I just don't want to accuse or make a judgement without having the facts and figures.

If they did this alone, then I will accept the premise of what is being said. If the numbers tell us otherwise, then this is not a true accusation.

I must assume from this article that more Republicans voted for it than Democrats did....darn, and I thought the Dems could block anything that was underhanded and leaning toward Socialism since they are in the majority.

Actually, enough dems and reps voted for this to pass. Any that did is a freaking socialist. I am the biggest Bush backer there has ever been on this site and even I am angry.
Ronaldus Magnus said that govt. is the problem.

Re: Bob Barr: Republican Bailouts-Without-End are as Big Government as it Gets

Even though the bailout may have been initiated by Bush, it's passage was truly a bi-partisan effort. I don't think of the measure in terms of "isms" but just a bunch of legislators who felt too much pressure to "do something" right now. It certainly surprised me that Democrats led the charge on this legislation, coming as it did from the Great Satan, but what really disgusts me is that the bill only passed after $110 Billion in pork was added on to help sway the fence sitters.

In the end (pun intended) we got a bill that still had inadequate oversight of investment banks, no guarantee of success, and no ceiling on the final costs. But, I have to say I've gained new respect for FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair recently.

Socialism for corporations is ok, but if you try giving socialism to the poor, you might as well be Stalin

Its not just socialism for corporations... this has far more reaching crap then that, with nationalizing the banks is more socialist for the country, then corps

And, just when you thought the bailout couldn't get any better, it now looks as though more than half the $250 Billion which the Treasury Department plans to invest in shoring up banks may go to paying shareholder dividends.

People have blamed Bush for our economy problems but we need to remember that things were going pretty well UNTIL the Democrats had control of the House, and with some Republics, have caused much more harm than Bush could have done alone!!

Of course, now it doesn't matter cause we'll have a Democratic pres. & a Democratic House - Socialism is on its way!

Re: Bob Barr: Republican Bailouts-Without-End are as Big Government as it Gets

So how much would you pay for this bailout? Wait! Don't answer yet! We have another bonus for you! AIG has just gotten another $40 Billion! Plus, we have another free gift if you act now! How about a possibly illegal $140 Billion tax break for banks direct from the Treasury Department!

I know that just like me, many of you have dreamed of being part owners of large, massively failed financial enterprises, and now you can! Best of all you don't have to do anything, because the cost of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will be automatically deducted from your paycheck. Limit one per customer. Offer good while supplies last.

Re: Bob Barr: Republican Bailouts-Without-End are as Big Government as it Gets

I read about the AIG "loan" ...... I'm in trouble, too. I'm too lazy to do the simple calculations but I think I can squeak by with about 1mil (1/1000 or .001) of the total bailout.....never mind... I DID do the calcs. I don't even need that much....where do I apply??

Well, it would have been OK til it was discovered that I am not a large business entity, or automaker, or financial institution. The people who put our economy in jeopardy are the ones "who shall receive" the blessings of the Fed. By putting these people back in their place of stature it IS possible that a few crumbs may fall from their table and grace my empty plate.

If I turn blue, may I quit holding my breath??

No, things were not going pretty well until the Dems got control of the house. It took the crash on Wall Street before anybody would pay attention to us and how we've been financially suffering for years.
