WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".

theres been problems with this issue in the past. As usual they are wanting to blame the voter for computer errors, if they are real errors and not cheats..

The U.S. had incredibly insecure standards for how votes are counted, and how voters are registered. I'm not in favor of a Federally opposed standard, but why can't State and Federal election commissions at least work out some guidelines. There's just too much uncertainty about e-voting, and voter registration remains hopelessly haphazard.

Legal battles unfolding in Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin provide fresh evidence of the potential fights to come over ballot access in an election marked by unprecedented spending to increase the number of voters in strategically important states.

The millions of dollars that have been poured into registration drives have yielded millions of new voters across the country. Those same efforts have now generated heated battles in both parties with cries of voter fraud and intimidation that may threaten the integrity of the election.

Election officials, meanwhile, are braced for huge turnout and the problems that could create with long lines, malfunctioning machines and challenges to voters.

Already, the U.S. Supreme Court has handed Ohio Democrats a victory, dissolving a court order obtained by Republicans to force state officials to release the list of 200,000 new voters whose names or addresses don't match government databases.

Democrats' Accusations

Democrats accused Republicans of trying to improperly disqualify voters.

In Florida, Democratic lawyer Charles H. Lichtman has assembled almost 5,000 lawyers to monitor precincts, assist voters turned away at the polls and litigate any disputes that can't be resolved out of court.

The Presidential vote had started for months now, by erasing the opposing party potentialy votes.

one of the advantages of early voting is it makes it easier to see how much stuffing is needed in order to win.

Why don't they have paper ballots? They don't take too long to count, they are easy to use, and they can not be changed by either human trickery or glitches. There have been a few cases where votes where tabulated incorrectly due to static from carpets. One can easily negate the effects with a little fabric softener spray.

Up yonder north, we have standard paper ballots, and we have most of our ridings' results in a few hours. Only in cases where the candidate won by a very small margin are votes re-counted. Never has there been a re-count due to glitches or mechanical problems, since we don't have any.

Here in Texas, we have a choice of methods. You can either vote electronically or on a paper ballot. For the state primary, I voted electronically, but for my election vote , I did a paper ballot.
